Best classes for beginners, solo & team play

Our Diablo 4 PvE class tier list is not a list that tells you which classes you should or shouldn’t play, rather it can help you understand which classes are stronger than others.

Diablo 4 is a game that changes over time, and now that we’re in Season 1, the balance of how powerful a class is can change as time goes on.

PvE gameplay is the core of the game, with each of the game’s classes taking on the hordes of Hell in different ways. To help you break down the differences, here’s our Diablo 4 PvE class tier list.

What is the best beginner and solo class for PvE in Diablo 4?

For those of you looking to experience Diablo 4’s story with more of a security blanket to protect you from an untimely death (and losing a lot of armor durability), we recommend picking up the Necromancer class, which is hands down one of the best for solo PvE play.

With the power to resurrect and command the dead – up to a total of nine, in fact – that can be further customized for a combination that suits you, the Necromancer feels incredibly powerful when playing the lowest of Diablo 4’s world levels.

Nothing feels better than watching your minions rush into battle of their own free will, protecting you and dealing heavy damage to boot. While they soak up most of the damage from enemies (assuming you don’t get too close), you’ll be able to pepper them with attacks from a distance, truly feeling like a master of your craft.

Diablo 4 Solo Class Tier List

LevelClasswhy choose
SNecromancerAble to heal quickly, command an army, and feel very powerful.
TODruidThe balance of powerful abilities and defensive capabilities makes the druid very well rounded.
B.RogueGreat movement and stealth abilities, massive single target damage, a bit harder to play
C.MagicianPowerful but very soft spells, can fight to stay alive when alone
D.BarbarianIt hits things very hard, but can also take a very strong hit in return.

Although we have ranked the above classes in order from S level to D level, let it be said that there is no bad Classes to play alone. Ultimately, each class is entirely viable to play through the entire campaign on its own, with each offering a slightly different flavor to how you approach combat.

Where one person might have trouble with the barbarian, another might find micromanaging a necromancer’s minions a bit tedious. However, it’s late game where some classes can start to struggle.

What is the best class to play group PvE in Diablo 4?

If you run with a group and really want to take charge of dealing massive amounts of damage, you’ll probably want to run the Sorcerer for PvE content in Diablo 4.

This is mainly because the class has a high amount of damage available, is able to control enemies, and provides great support to your team.

Like a glass cannon, making sure you have other players fighting by your side can help take the heat off you a bit, which means you can do what you do best: rain down all sorts of spells (if you have the mana to do it).

Diablo 4 Party Class Tier List

LevelClasswhy choose
SMagicianAble to clear the way for your teammates dealing heavy AoE damage
TORogueHe can effectively take out bosses in the game with a high amount of damage.
B.BarbarianA great tank that can soak up hits to give damage dealers a breather.
C.NecromancerHe’s still very powerful, but his army of minions can be confusing and a bit cumbersome on screen among a group of players.
D.Druidthe druid can work as a tank or support, it’s just that other classes on this list can finally do better

Again we must emphasize, there are no bad classes in Diablo 4. The Necromancer is lower on this list not because they are worse in a group, but simply because they are well suited for solo play with your skeletal army in tow.

The Barbarian goes up here because they’re excellent tanks, allowing wizards and rogues to do what they do best: deal big damage without holding back.

Since all of Diablo 4’s classes are viable for solo play, a party made up of any combination of them will have no problem working with all of the game’s content. At the end of the day, the right choice for solo or team play is the class that appeals to you the most.

That’s it for our Diablo 4 class tier list. For more on the game, check out our Diablo home page or check out our guide that breaks down the Renown system and rewards in Diablo 4.
