Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ release date may have leaked

Almost two years on from its original reveal, and the next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series finally has a proper name – Shadows. With the studio releasing a countdown for the first proper cinematic trailer of the game, it might have also just leaked the release date ahead of time.

Below, I’ll walk you through everything we know so far about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, including all the trailers, gameplay details, and more.

Launch date leak for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

According to the leak, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on November 15, 2024.

Shortly after Ubisoft scheduled the YouTube Premier videos for the Shadows cinematic trailer, eagle-eyed fans spotted that the studio had accidentally left the release date in some of the descriptions. The text has now been edited to remove the information, but not before users could screenshot the date.

Given that the information came directly from Ubisoft before it was removed, it’s highly likely to be accurate. Of course, I’ll update this article if the information turns out to be wrong, or changes closer to the release date.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailers

We’re currently anticipating a new cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is set to go live at 5PM BST on May 15.

This is likely to be our first proper look at what Shadows has in store for us, as Ubisoft has remained fairly dark on the game since its first reveal in late 2022.

Prior to this, we only had one thirty-second-long Assassin’s Creed Codename Red reveal trailer that aired during Ubisoft Forward 2022. The trailer shows a few significant details like the return of Animus, the game’s setting, and a brief cinematic look at the environment.

We also catch a glimpse of our new main character wielding a Katana-like sword and hidden blade. They’re dressed in an awesome-looking black Shinobi outfit.

Are there any gameplay details?

At the moment, no gameplay details are available for Assassin’s Creed Shadows; All we know is that it is set in Feudal Japan and will feature an open-world RPG experience. That means it will likely be similar to the gameplay structure we saw with Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.

Marc-Alexis Cote, the Vice President and Executive Producer for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, said that Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is the “next premium flagship title” and will serve as the “future of our open-world RPG games on Assassin’s Creed.
