Many Samsung smartphone users use the Samsung Messages app to send and receive messages. Meanwhile, WhatsApp and Telegram continue to exist for specific contacts and friends. Unfortunately, some Samsung users are facing the error of not being able to send messages to anyone. Whenever they type a message and hit send, the phone gives a sending error.
While WhatsApp and Telegram make conversations lively, text messages or SMS are also essential. For example, verify your number for a service provider or request some essential services. Either way, you might want to fix that error, and we’re here to help.
At this point, it’s probably safe to assume you’ve checked to see if your phone was in Airplane mode accidentally. Text messages need a carrier signal to work properly.
Let’s get started.
1. Network problems
Network problems can cause all kinds of problems. You can use an app like Open Signal to find nearby towers and move closer for a better signal. Do people (maybe friends) in the same area with the same carrier get good coverage? Can they send and receive messages? This will help you understand if the problem is with you (your location or phone) or the mobile service provider.
2. Check carrier uptime
The service provider might be under maintenance or some kind of error that leads to the downtime and subsequent problems like Samsung message failed to deliver error. You can check the downtime of some services at Down Detector.
If that’s the case with your mobile carrier’s outage, there’s little you can do.
3. Reinsert SIM
I know this is old school but it just might help. Remove your SIM card from the tray, wait for a moment then reinsert it to check if this fixes the message error on your Samsung phone.
4. Default Messaging App
What is your default messaging app and how many have you installed? Some apps like Truecaller offer messaging features and will constantly show annoying pop-ups hoping you’ll convert. Sometimes, users don’t know that the messaging feature is part of the package. Open the Samsung Messages app. Do you get a message saying your default messaging app is another app?
You can switch to Samsung Messages right on the same screen by tapping OK to confirm. You can also change default messaging app preferences from Settings > Apps > Messages > Messaging apps, and here you can select Samsung Messages. Instead, I use SMS Organizer because it’s simply better than anything else I’ve tried so far.
4. Unsubscribe from iMessage
Have you recently switched to an Android phone from an iPhone? The Apple ecosystem uses iMessages but that won’t work on your Samsung phone or any other Android for that matter. You may need to deregister iMessage on your SIM before you can send messages using Samsung.
Insert the SIM on your iPhone and open Settings > Messages > and turn off iMessage on your iPhone.
5. Clear the cache of the messaging app
Messages is an app like any other and it stores all kinds of data on your phone to function properly. Over time, this data can become corrupted, leading to errors such as the one you’re getting when the Samsung Messages app doesn’t send text messages.
Step 1: Open Settings and go to Apps and search for Messages then open it.
Step 2: Tap on Storage and then at the bottom you will find two options Clear data and Clear cache.
That won’t delete your messages or any other personal data. You can safely do that for this and other apps as well.
6. Reset network settings
Resetting Network Settings will only delete saved Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN and cellular network details. No other personal data will be touched. Mobile network details will be set automatically through the messaging application. You will have to manually reconnect to the Wi-Fi network and the Bluetooth device. Make sure you write down the Wi-Fi password somewhere.
Step 1: Open Settings and go to General Management > Reset > Reset network settings. Tap the blue button that says Reset settings and confirm if asked.
That’s it. Launch the Samsung Messages app again and it should set itself up as long as you have a good signal and network connection.
7. Using third-party apps
We love using Microsoft’s SMS Organizer at GT. This nifty little app is packed with tips and tricks. Some of the cool features include the ability to copy OTPs from the notification center, set reminders, create folders to save private messages, get reminders to automatically pay bills, etc. It comes with an interface. like Gmail, where messages are filtered into different tabs based on content. Keep texting
The Samsung Messages apps have come a long way, and they offer many of the same features as other notable messaging apps. Good to see that they are growing and continue to build on it. However, it’s good to have options in case of an emergency or a situation where the app doesn’t work.
Contact your carrier or go to the nearest branch if the problem persists. I don’t recommend formatting, but that’s not strictly necessary. You are free to try it. Please back up everything before continuing.
