Fortunately, Instagram or any social network does not notify people when they are blocked. Imagine how shocked and upset a person can be if they receive the message ‘XYZ has blocked you’. Oh!
You may be wondering why you don’t see a few friends’ posts or stories. Well, does that mean they blocked you? The person may have deactivated their account or stopped posting on Instagram. So what’s the best way to know if you’ve been blocked? Well, before we start, let’s make it clear that we won’t use any third party tools because they don’t work. Instead, we do some manual testing. So put on your detective jacket and let’s sneak in.
1. Find records through search
The easiest way to find out if someone has blocked you is to search their Instagram profile. Search for their name or Instagram address using the Instagram search feature.
One of these things will happen:
1. If you see the profile and also the posts, then you are not blocked in case of public profile. For private accounts, if you see a profile that says ‘This account is Private’, everything is fine. Maybe the person removed you from their followers and made their profile private.
2. If you look at the profile and the number of posts, but the post display area shows the message No Posts, then you have been blocked.
3. If the profile doesn’t appear in search at all, the person may have deactivated their profile or they’ve blocked you. To verify your suspicions, you must investigate using other tests.
2. Check profile
When someone blocks you, Instagram won’t remove their old comments or tags from your profile. If their profile is not accessible through search, you should use these old comments to access their profile. If the profile shows post count without posts, you’ve been blocked.
3. Check out their Instagram profile in a web browser
You can view Instagram profile by link https://instagram.com/
Then, if you log in from your own profile, you’ll get a ‘Sorry, this page isn’t available’ error if the person has blocked you.
There is a small possibility that the person may have deactivated their account. To confirm it, log out of your Instagram profile in a browser or open incognito mode and open their profile via the link. If the profile is accessible, that’s true, but if the profile isn’t open to them either, you’re fine.
4. Check your messages
Blocking someone on Instagram will hide the chat thread for both participants. So if you’re suspecting someone is blocking you, open Direct Messages (DM) and find their chat thread. If the chat thread exists, you are not blocked. But if it is missing, then maybe he/she blocked you. But again, the person may have deactivated the profile and thus the chat thread is missing.
To verify, you need to check popular Instagram groups. Open a group chat that you’re both a member of. If you can see their profile in the group but not anywhere else on Instagram, then yes, you are blocked.
5. Try following the same account again
Finally, if you can somehow see their profile, try following them by tapping the Follow button. If you are blocked, you will not be able to follow that person. Tapping the Follow button will do nothing and you will see the same button again. Instagram won’t notify them about it.
But if they haven’t blocked you, tapping the Follow button will make you follow the person and Instagram will notify them about it. I know it’s risky, but sometimes you have to take extreme steps.
6. Check from another phone or profile
Finally, the simple and easy way is to check out from another account. If you have two Instagram accounts, open their profiles from the second account. And, if you only own a single profile, ask a close friend or family member to look it up.
If your profile opens normally, it’s time to reflect on your bad actions that caused the person to block you. *evil smile*
How to know if someone blocked you on Instagram Story
Sadly, there’s no direct way to know that. All you can do is check from another profile. That will also only work if the person has a public profile. Your best bet is to ask a mutual friend. Chances are they’re using the new Best Friends feature for Instagram Stories.
Check carefully
Hope you can see if you are blocked on Instagram.

Remember that if you can’t see someone’s posts, they may have removed you from their follower list. So double check before blaming them for blocking you.
