Quick Fixes
- Enable auto-sync for contacts under device Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > Samsung ID > Sync account > Contacts.
- Allow complete contact access under Contacts app settings > Permissions > Contacts.
- Clear the Samsung Contacts app cache.
Common Fixes
- Verify correct date and time – Incorrect date and time prevents the Contacts app from syncing data. To fix it, enable automatic date and time under device Settings > General management > Date and time.
- Enable Background Usage for Samsung Contacts – Restricted background usage won’t allow the Contacts app to sync data accurately. Enable Background Data Usage under the Contacts app Settings > Mobile Data.
- Update the App – It will fix existing bugs and glitches preventing the app from syncing contacts. Tap the menu icon in the top-left to open Samsung Contacts settings (gear icon) and press About Contacts to install new updates.
Fix 1: Turn On Auto Sync
Enabling auto sync for contacts on your Samsung account automatically refreshes data to show it in the Samsung Contacts app.
Step 1: Open the Settings app, tap Accounts and backup, and press Manage accounts.
Step 2: Toggle on Auto sync data at the bottom, tap Samsung account, and press Sync account to enable it for Contacts.
Fix 2: Verify Permissions for the Contacts App
Samsung Contacts app may fail to show or sync your contacts if it lacks the necessary permissions. Utilize the following steps to check and enable it:
Step 1: Long-press the Contacts app icon, tap the ‘i’ button, and press Permissions.
Step 2: Tap Contacts and set the access to Allow.
Fix 3: Switch the Contacts View
If you’ve previously configured the Contacts app to display contacts from only one account, it may mislead you into thinking the app isn’t syncing accurately.
To fix it, tap the hamburger menu at the top-left corner to display All contacts.
Fix 4: Clear the Contacts App Cache
Accumulation of obsolete cache files can often corrupt or prevent the Samsung Contacts app from syncing data. Clearing the existing cache data should fix it.
Step 1: Long-press the Contacts app icon, tap the ‘i’ button, and press Storage.
Step 2: Tap Clear Cache to delete the Contacts app cache files.
If the issue keeps recurring, switch to Google Contacts on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
