Want to use your Alexa-powered Echo device as a Bluetooth speaker for your phone or PC? Well, that would require you to connect the two by putting Alexa in pairing mode for Bluetooth. But how does one do that? Find the answer in this post, where we will tell you three methods to put Alexa in Bluetooth pairing mode.
Before you can put Alexa in pairing mode for Bluetooth, you must set it up and connect to Wi-Fi. Once done, you can use the following methods to connect Alexa to Bluetooth. Let’s get started.
1. Using Voice Commands
One of the easiest ways to put an Alexa-powered Echo device in Bluetooth pairing mode is by using Alexa voice commands. This method lets you put Alexa in pairing mode without an app.
This method basically involves two steps:
Step 1. Say Alexa Voice Commands
On your Alexa-enabled Echo device, say any of the following voice commands to Alexa:
- Alexa, Bluetooth on.
- Alexa, pair.
- Alexa, search for Bluetooth devices
- Alexa, connect to Bluetooth device.
Your Alexa device will say “searching”. That means Alexa is now looking for nearby Bluetooth devices, and it will also show up on your phone or computer’s Bluetooth settings that can be accessed, as shown below.

Step 2. Enable Bluetooth on Your Phone or PC
Step 1: You must enable Bluetooth on your mobile or phone and look for available devices. Here are quick steps to enable Bluetooth on popular devices and put them in pairing mode. After reaching the Bluetooth screen, jump to step 2.
- Android phone: Go to Settings > Connected devices. Tap on Pair new device.
- Samsung Galaxy phone: Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
- iPhone: Settings > Bluetooth. Enable it and look for Echo in Other devices section.
- Windows PC: Settings > Bluetooth & devices. Enable Bluetooth and click on Add device. Then, click on Bluetooth on the Add a Device screen. Your Echo device will show up here.
- Mac: System Settings > Bluetooth and enable it from the right sidebar. Look for the Echo device in Nearby devices, and once it shows up, hover the mouse over it and click on Connect.
Step 2: Tap/click on your Echo device on your phone or computer in the list of available Bluetooth devices to pair the two.
Note: Sometimes, the Echo device doesn’t show up quickly in the list of available devices on your phone or PC. You must be patient and wait for a few more seconds or try again.
That’s it. You have successfully paired your Alexa device with another device.

2. Using the Amazon Alexa App
You can also put Alexa in pairing mode manually and connect to any nearby Bluetooth device using the Alexa app, as shown below:
Step 1: Open the Alexa app on your phone. It’s the same app you used to set up your Alexa-enabled Echo device.
Step 2: Tap on the Devices tab at the bottom and go to Echo & Alexa.
Step 3: Tap on your Echo device from the list.
Step 4: Press the Connect a device option under Bluetooth Connections.
Tip: If you don’t see the Bluetooth Connections section, tap on the Settings icon at the top and go to Bluetooth devices.
Step 5: Your Alexa device will look for nearby Bluetooth devices. Now, enable Bluetooth on your phone or PC, as shown in the above section.
Step 6: Once Alexa finds a Bluetooth device, you will see its name in the app. Tap on it to connect to it.
Note: Please be patient, as it may take a while for your device to show under the Bluetooth devices in the Alexa app while looking for nearby devices.
Step 7: Your Echo will send a pairing request to your device. Tap on Pair to connect the two.
3. Using Alexa Website
Earlier, you could put Alexa in pairing mode using the Alexa website as well. While the functionality still exists, Amazon suggests using the Alexa app for best results. But if the above two methods don’t help connect Alexa to Bluetooth, you can use this method.
Step 1: Open the Alexa website in any browser and log in to your Amazon account.
Step 2: Click on Settings from the left sidebar and select your Echo device.
Step 3: Click on Bluetooth.
Step 4: Press the ‘Pair a New Device’ button.
Step 5: Your Echo device will look for available Bluetooth devices.
Now, open Settings on your mobile and PC and enable Bluetooth. Then, choose Echo Dot in the list of available devices to pair the two.
