11 Best Ways to Fix TikTok Not Letting You Follow Someone

Of course, you’ll need to follow relevant accounts to watch those trendy videos on TikTok. But what if TikTok doesn’t let you follow someone?

Several factors can affect your TikTok experience. TikTok may limit your account temporarily, or it can be related to a corrupt cache of the app. Here’s what you can do to fix when TikTok is not letting you follow someone or specific accounts.

1. You Have Followed Too Many Accounts

While TikTok doesn’t specify the limit to follow several accounts daily, you need to be careful not to follow hundreds of accounts in a day. TikTok may limit you from following more accounts. And when that happens, you’ll need to take a break and try after 24 to 48 hours.

While there’s no official word, some users suggest that you can follow up to 200 accounts per day. If you’ve hit that limit, you’ll need to wait for the quota to reset.

2. TikTok Has Recognized You as a Bot

Did you like too many videos or shared dozens of comments in a short time? Your quick actions may flag you on TikTok and may label your account as a bot or someone performing suspicious activities. You’ll need to slow down and try after some time.

3. Your Account Is Shadowbanned

Social media apps come with rules and community guidelines to follow. When you break such rules by posting irrelevant content, the company may shadowban your account temporarily. You must wait for a day or two and let the company lift the ban from your account.

4. Check TikTok Servers

TikTok servers often face outages and go down. If that’s the case, TikTok may misbehave on your phone. You can visit Downdetector and search for TikTok and confirm the same with high spikes and user comments complaining the same.

You need to wait for TikTok to fix server-side issues and try following interesting accounts after some time.

5. It’s a Private Account

Some TikTok users may lock their profile to keep prying eyes away. When you try to follow such private accounts, the recipient needs to approve it. Until the person approves you, you can’t glance over their TikTok account.

Step 1: Launch TikTok and tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner.

Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu at the top-right corner and choose Settings and privacy from the pop-up.

Step 3: Scroll to Cache & Cellular section to select Free up space. Then tapp Clear button next to Cache from the following menu.

Android users can clear the cache after opening the App Info menu of the TikTok app.

Step 1: Long-press on TikTok and tap ‘i’ icon to open the App Info menu.

Step 2: Select Storage and cache and tap Clear cache from the following menu.

8. Sign Out and Sign in Again

You can’t follow someone on TikTok due to an account authentication error. You may sign out from your TikTok account and sign in again. Here’s how.

Step 1: Launch TikTok and tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner.

Step 2: Tap the hamburger icon at the top-right corner and choose Settings and privacy. Scroll down to the Login menu and tap Log out.

Step 3: Sign in with your TikTok account details and try the following accounts without any problem.

9. Use TikTok Web App

TikTok offers a capable web version, too. If you face glitches with the TikTok native app on iPhone or Android, move to the web version and follow accounts.

10. Update TikTok
