Erik Karlsson is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who plays as a defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 15th overall pick at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to being drafted, Karlsson played for Frölunda HC, making his Elitserien debut on March 1, 2008. He began his professional career in the Elitserien league for Frölunda HC on March 1, 2008. He recorded a 8:48 of ice time in the home game against league leaders HV71.
