Kemba Walker is an American professional basketball player who plays as a point guard for AS Monaco of the French LNB Pro A and the EuroLeague. Before making his move to the French side, Walker played twelve (12) seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and the Dallas Mavericks.
Walker played collegiate basketball at the University of Connecticut, where he was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team as he featured in every contest during his freshman year. Who is Kemba Walker?
Kemba Hudley Walker, born in The Bronx, New York, United States on May 8, 1990. He is one of the five (5) children birthed to Andrea Walker and Paul Walker. His siblings are; brothers Akil Walker and Keya Walker and sisters Sharifa Walker and Kayla Walker.
Walker studied at Rice High School in Harlem, New York, where he began his basketball career. As a junior, he played just once alongside senior guard Derrick Rose at the Madison Square Garden against Simeon Career Academy and they won the contest 53-51.
After high school, Walker enrolled at the University of Connecticut to continue his career. During his freshman year at the University of Connecticut, Walker played in every contest and was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team. The Charlotte Bobcats (now the Charlotte Hornets) selected Kemba Walker in the first round, ninth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. During his rookie season, The Bobcats had a terrible season, where they finished with a 7-59 record in the shortened season.
Kemba would make slight improvements during his first five years, breaking out in the 2016-2017 NBA Season. He made his first all-star team. On a bad team, Kemba was the only bright light. He made it to his first and only All-NBA team during the 2018-2019 season.
After years of frustration, Kemba requested to be traded. He was traded to the Celtics in the 2019 offseason via a sign-and-trade deal. He would make it to the Eastern Conference Finals with the Boston outfit. He re-injured his left knee and returned in the middle of the 2020-2021 season. He wasn’t able to return to his all-star level form and endured a tough season with the Celtics.
During the 2021 offseason, he was traded to the OKC Thunder who waived him. He then signed with his hometown team, the New York Knicks for whom he will play during the 2021-2022 NBA Season.
