Andrea Fay Friedman died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Santa Monica, California. The actress was 53.

Friedman is known for her role in “Life Goes On” as Amanda Swanson, the girlfriend (and later wife) of the character Charles “Corky” Thacher.

She also starred in several films and television series including; Baywatch, Chicago Hope, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Division, and Saving Grace.

In 2009, Friedman was the subject of the documentary “A Possible Dream: The Andrea Friedman Story”, with narration by Joanne Woodward.

In 2010, she showed her ability to tackle controversy with grace after voicing a character with Down syndrome, Ellen, in an episode of “Family Guy”

Her other film credit includes; Smudge, Walker Texas Ranger, and Special Witness. Her last film project before her death was in the 2019 family holiday film; “Carol of the Bells”

The film tells the story of Scott Johnson (RJ Mitte), a young man and adoptee who searches for his biological mother (Friedman), finding that she has Down syndrome.

Aside from acting, Friedman occasionally worked as an assistant teacher at UCLA’s Pathway program, an initiative for students that teaches them to live independently.
