Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2: Release window, trailers, gameplay & platforms

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been announced… again, but this time it’s been developed by The Chinese Room, and it actually has a release window to go off, along with trailers, gameplay, and information about the platforms.

The original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is highly acclaimed as one of the best role-playing games of all time, letting players explore the seedy underbelly of L.A. as a fledgling vampire while competing factions vie for power over the vampiric underworld.

Based on the Vampire: The Masquerade TTRPG, the series has a large horror focus, and if the upcoming sequel takes after the original game closely, it should feature deep characters, morally questionable choices, a dark atmosphere, and interesting role-playing scenarios.

While we don’t have a tonne of information about the game yet, there are enough details to sketch out what the game will be like. So, read on for everything we know about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 so far.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 trailers

The first trailer for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was the official announcement trailer, which debuted on September 2, 2023.

It ran for a minute and a half, and featured a mix of gameplay and in-engine scenes. Most of the gameplay was of combat, showing off various special powers a vampire can use, though there was also a brief scene of the player gliding down to the Seattle streets.

It also set up a little about the story, with some text mentioning a power vacuum in the vampire court, and a “three-front siege on Seattle”, which suggests there are many characters or factions looking to take advantage of the chaos in the underworld.

The other trailer for the game was the studio reveal trailer, which announced The Chinese Room as the developer. It’s a company primarily known for walking sims like Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, but the studio has grown and shown itself capable of new experiences over the years.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is a first-person, horror role-playing game set in the World of Darkness universe, a world where there is a secret society of vampires, werewolves, and other monsters that operates clandestinely in the shadows.

We know it features combat, which from the trailer is likely to be focused on melee encounters. The Steam page does reveal that you can select your vampire clan like the original, which gives you different choices in combat – allowing you to jump into the fray or skulk in the shadows to thin the herd.

The Steam page also mentions that your “choices, plots, and schemes will determine the balance of power”, suggesting it has the same role-playing choices and consequences we’d expect of an RPG.

We don’t know much else so far, meaning there are still questions in the air about whether it will be open world or have multiple areas with loading screens like the original, how quests are set to work, or how character progression and development happens – but we’ll update this when we get more information.
