Use Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool to Check For Memory Problems

Memory related issues in Windows can lead to errors and crashes. While Windows’ built-in memory diagnostic tool automatically prompts for a test when it detects a memory problem, sometimes it’s better to perform the test manually in case you suspect that a memory problem is hindering your PC’s performance.

How to perform a memory test manually

Here is the step-by-step procedure to manually start a memory diagnostic test in Windows.

Step 1: Press the start button. Click Dashboard.

Step 2: Click and Open Administration tools.

Step 4. The Memory Diagnostic tool window will open. You will find two options:

  • Reboot now and check for problems.
  • Schedule a check to find the problem the next time you start your computer.

Select the recommended option”Reboot now and check for problems“. Your computer will restart immediately and a screen will appear as shown in the screenshot below. The memory diagnostic tool checks your computer for memory problems. Depending on various factors, it may take several minutes to an hour to complete the test.

After completing the test, your computer should start up normally. You will receive a Memory diagnostic tool message saying “No memory errors detected” if the tool does not find any memory errors.

If the memory diagnostic test finds any errors then the best thing you can do is to contact your computer manufacturer about the same issue.
