Carry an Android phone but also have an iPad at home? You’re not alone. Android is great on phones, not great on tablets. Or you could be a tech geek like me who owns both an Android phone and an iPhone. Whatever the reason may be, you’re here because you have an Android phone that holds all your pictures and you need to get them onto your iPhone/iPad without much trouble.
The good news is that I found some effective solutions that really worked for me. Bad news, one of them may require a bit of manual labor.
Pro Tip: Solutions are sorted from slightly easy to very easy. Please move to solution #3.
Jeremy, If you’re reading this, it’s probably best to move on to number 3.
1. Manually Sync Android with iTunes to iOS
Presenting the caveman solution for all your synchronization needs is manual synchronization. And it will be like manual labor. You’ll need the actual cable, a PC to connect them, and of course, the iTunes app. Yes!
Step 1: Connect your Android Phone to PC via USB and copy files over to PC. Or you can use Cheetah Sync to do it wirelessly, but it will take some time to set up.
Step 2: Connect iPhone or iPad to PC and launch iTunes. From the detection device screen Pictures button at the top.
Step 3: Check the option that says “Sync photos from”, next to this option you will find a drop-down menu. You will be able to select the folder here. Select the folder on your PC where you saved the photos from your Android phone. Or just choose something generic like My picture.
Step 4: Click the sync button at the bottom right and all the photos from the given folder will be synced to your iPhone or iPad. They’ll show up on your Photos app in a new album.
The great thing about this method is that the next time you connect your iPhone or iPad to sync with iTunes (if you absolutely do), the app will scan the specified folder and if you have added multiple more photos into it, they will be synced immediately.
And if your PC and iOS device are on the same Wi-Fi network, you don’t even need a wired connection. Just go to settings on your iOS device and enable Wi-Fi sync. When your phone is charging, it will be synced automatically.
2. Wireless sync with Send Anywhere
Send Anywhere is like Dropbox except it doesn’t always use the cloud. That sounds confusing. All you need to know is that you will be able to share any number of photos from your Android phone to a nearby iOS device in no time. Alternatively, if that’s not the case, you can choose to upload files send anywhere server and send a link to your friend or recipient.
In this guide, we will focus on sharing photos between Android and iOS when they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
First, download the Send Anywhere app for Android and iOS.
Step 1: Launch the Android app and tap Send. From the media menu, select image. All photos saved on your Android phone will be visible. Choose as many as you want. I wish the app had a select all button but it doesn’t.
Step 2: After all the photos are selected, tap the . icon ALRIGHT button. The next screen will show you a 6-digit key that is valid for the next 10 minutes. There is also a QR code button next to the key.
Step 3: Now, pick up your iPhone or iPad and tap the . icon Receive button. You can either enter the key you saw in Step 2 or scan the QR Code. Lazy like me, I choose the QR code.
Step 4: Once the QR Code is scanned and validated, the money transfer process will begin immediately.
Transfer speeds are right up there with any wireless transmission application. You’ll see speeds anywhere between 1-3 Mbps, and depending on how many photos you’ve selected, you’ll do it anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
If for some reason Send Anywhere doesn’t work for you, or you don’t need the big cloud features, here’s a simple app that does a good job of transferring photos (and really any type of file) from Android to iOS.
Download the Android and iOS apps first.
Step 1: Launch the Instashare Android app. Make sure that you have Wi-Fi turned on and that both the Android and iOS devices are connected to the same network. This application can also use Bluetooth instead, but the speed will not be high.
Step 2: Enter Exhibition room app and touch and hold the entire album or individual images you want to transfer. From Share up button, select Instashare.
Step 3: The Instashare app will open and once the scan is complete you will see your iOS device listed there. Touch it.
Step 4: Now on your iOS device, you will see a pop-up in the Instashare app for authentication. Clap Allow and all images will be synced. Simple as that.
My road or highway
That’s right, so which of the above is your way? Or is it something better that we don’t know about?
