The App Store is the only destination to download apps for iPhone and iPad, unlike the Play Store. That’s why it can be so frustrating when the App Store stops working. A common problem faced by many users is that the App Store is waiting for download errors.
You can open the App Store and search for the app. But the download button is not working or the download is not progressing. It’s stuck and the little blue circle indicating the download is in progress doesn’t move.
Let’s get started.
1. Restart your iPhone
There are two ways to restart your phone. One is by pressing the power button until you see the Slide to power off option. That’s a normal reboot, but sometimes, you need to do a hard reboot.
Press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button, and then press and hold the side button. You should now see the Apple logo. See if the App Store pending download bug has been fixed.
2. Updating the OS
Apple is pretty good at pushing updates to its devices. It contains security fixes, new features, and old patches. See if an update is available, and if so, update it immediately.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check.

3. Try again after reboot
If the app download is stuck and the App Store is waiting to download, cancel the download and restart your iPhone. Then try downloading again. Some users say that waiting a few minutes before restarting the download also works. If you are downloading multiple apps or games at once, cancel them all and download them one by one.
4. Check network settings
Have you checked your network settings? Try a different Wi-Fi network. Try using your mobile data instead if the app size isn’t too big. You can test your mobile and Wi-Fi bandwidth speed on Fast Speed Test (owned by Netflix).
Make sure that the smartphone is not in airplane mode and that you have a stable connection with enough signal. Use OpenSignal to test that.

5. Storage space
Apple is known to charge a premium for storage space on their products. One reason why quite a few users buy an iPhone with just enough storage. Downloading games like Call of Duty requires a lot of space and your phone may not have enough space.
Open Settings and tap About in the General section. That’s where you can see how much space is left for that app or game.
There is no way to increase storage space on iPhone and iPad. What you can do is back up your photos and other documents in the cloud and then delete them to free up space on your phone. Try again to check if the App Store download waiting issue is resolved.
6. Payment method
Trying to buy an app or game? While that’s unlikely, check your payment method. Do you have enough balance on your credit card? Call your bank when in doubt. Meanwhile, try another card.
7. Parental Controls
All Apple phones include Parental Controls, which allows them to restrict app purchases and in-app purchases on your phone. Kids can earn extremely high credit card bills if you don’t use verification on App Store purchases. It’s easy to get take away. Control their browsing activities so they don’t stumble upon suspicious content.
8. Reinstall
Some users have reported that they were able to install an app or game, but the app or game simply didn’t open for them. It’s a dead icon. Go to Settings > General > Device Storage, select the app or game you want to uninstall, and remove it from there.
If that doesn’t work, press and hold the app icon on the home screen and select Remove. That’s how most of us uninstall apps, but the first method is more suitable for troublesome apps or games.
9. Log out and Sign in again
Many users have found success with this step. Open Settings and tap on your account name and profile ID.
Tap the Sign Out text in red font. Wait a few seconds and then log back in. You’ll have to enter your Apple ID and password along with a 2FA code if you’ve set it up. Are you still getting the App Store pending download error? Hope not.
10. Reset network/device settings
Open Settings and tap General to select Reset.
That’s where you can reset everything on your phone. Let’s start with Reset network settings. If you’re having network issues like Wi-Fi or mobile data, try this. You will only lose your saved Wi-Fi passwords, but no apps, app data, photos, documents or any other data will be affected.
The last and least favorable option is Erase All Content and Settings. That will return your phone to its factory state, just like when you first unboxed it. All data will be lost, so make sure to back it up first.
One app for everything
There is an app for everything. Yes, almost everything. Not being able to download the new game you want to try is not a great thing. The App Store works perfectly for the most part, but when it doesn’t, it doesn’t.
