If you own a Chromecast and have the Google Cast extension installed, you may already be familiar with the tab casting feature. With it, you can display everything on your Chrome tab to your TV. While this tab mirroring is nice, it’s still far from optimal. Especially when watching videos.
Chromecast can only cast tabs at 720p resolution. So don’t forget to watch Full HD videos. Also, since the Chromecast actually mirrors everything on your screen instead of playing the video smoothly, there’s quite a bit of lag.
Sites like YouTube have a Cast in their web player. When you click that, a link is sent to the Chromecast and the video is played there. At the highest resolution your machine can allow. And there is no delay.
This is obviously much better than tab mirroring. The only problem is that a lot of websites don’t support this feature. But don’t worry, thanks to the desktop bookmarklet (and Chrome extension) we’ll be able to do this in a jiffy. You can also do this from Android.
1. VidCast . Bookmarks
Go to the website and drag the VidCast button to your bookmarks bar. Next time you watch an embedded video on a website that doesn’t support casting, just click the bookmarklet. The extension will scan the video and upload it in its own player.
Click Cast , select your Chromecast and start playing the video! VidCast supports sites like Vimeo, TED, Dailymotion, etc.
An alternative to VidCast is the PlayTo extension for Chromecast.
2. EZCast for Android
Touch network in the app and navigate to the location of the video. Clap Play and you will get a popup for options, then the video will start playing on the TV. It’s as simple as that.
3. Firefox for Android
It’s shocking that Chrome for Android doesn’t have built-in Chromecast support but Firefox does. Like Chrome on the desktop, you can mirror an entire tab, including any media currently playing. To do this, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox installed.
Upload the page, tap Menu button, go to Tools and choose mirror tab. Select your Chromecast and the media will start playing.

My Cloud Player for SoundCloud: If you’re a SoundCloud fan, this app will let you stream all your favorite music to Chromecast.
