Spider-Man 2 graphics modes: Fidelity vs Performance mode

The Spider-Man 2 graphics modes have been leaked, detailing exactly what performance players can expect from the Fidelity and Performance modes on the PlayStation 5.

Spider-Man 2 is one of the most highly-anticipated games of the year, continuing the story of the acclaimed Insomniac Spider-Man titles. This time around, players can expect an even more detailed New York, and the ability to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, with a dash of Venom thrown in there to mix things up.

If you’re one of the many that are excited about playing the game, you’ll want to learn all about the Spider-Man 2 graphics modes, and what the Fidelity vs Performance mode features are.

The two Spider-Man 2 graphics modes are called Fidelity and Performance. This information comes courtesy of The Snitch, a gaming insider and leaker, so it’s worth taking the exact details with a grain of salt until official confirmation comes.

This choice of graphics modes has become the standard for console gaming as of the ninth generation, allowing players to tailor the experience to their own liking, similar to altering settings on a PC.

Both graphics modes will come with varying performance, ranging from the frame rate to the resolution output on the screen. Here are the exact differences between the Fidelity and Performance modes in Spider-Man 2:

Spider-Man 2 Fidelity mode features

  • 30 frames per second (FPS)
  • 4K resolution
  • Ray Tracing and additional visual effects

Fidelity or Performance mode in Spider-Man 2?

The choice between Fidelity and Performance mode in Spider-Man 2 largely comes down to preference, but if you want something approaching an objective answer, we recommend the Spider-Man 2 Performance mode.

This largely comes down to it having 60 FPS, which is far smoother than 30, and will make your web swinging and combat encounters feel snappier and more responsive.

Obviously, you will be sacrificing some graphical quality here, but Ray Tracing isn’t a vital feature, and the untrained eye won’t be able to tell the difference between 4K resolution and 4K upscaled – especially when most people don’t actually have 4K televisions and monitors anyway.

The biggest downside of Performance mode is that the upscaled resolution can create input lag, though again, this will largely go unnoticed unless you are comparing modes or really on the lookout for it.

That’s our full breakdown of the Spider-Man 2 graphics modes, and now you know what sets Fidelity and Performance mode apart, along with our personal recommendation.
