The award-winning artist, Roger Kastel was widely known for creating the posters for the films; “Jaws” and “The Empire Strikes Back”
Roger Kastel died at 92 on Wednesday, 8 November 2023 in Worcester County, Massachusetts, according to a statement shared on his official website.
The statement did not mention his cause of death making it unknown whether the iconic artist battled any form of illness or died through an accident.

Roger Kastel is survived by his wife Grace Trowbridge of 66 years. The late artist met and fell in love with Grace in California. Upon returning to New York City after the Korean War, Roger married Grace.
Since Grace lives away from the spotlight, her date of birth, age, height, weight, and occupation are currently unknown to us.
Born on 11th June 1931, in White Plains, New York, “Roger got his first paying art job at the age of 15 doing industrial cartoons”; according to his website.
Kastel studied at the Arts Students League in New York City and eventually became a freelance artist after a stint in the Navy during the Korean War.
He sold his first illustration in the early 1960s and illustrated paperback book covers and movie posters over the next forty years.
Roger Kastel worked for all of the major publishers In New York City and produced over 1,000 illustrations for various publishers and novels
Included in his over 1,000 illustrations were the movie posters for the iconic “Jaws (1975)” and “The Empire Strikes Back (1980)”
“Jaws” was about a great white shark terrorizing a beach community. The film was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and won three other Academy Awards.
Apart from the well-known posters; “Jaws” and “The Empire Strikes Back”, he made posters for other famous movies; including; Doctor Faustus, and The Great Train Robbery
Roger Kastel received multiple awards for various other illustrations and fine art.” He was a longtime member of the Society of Illustrators, and his work was recognized in the books “200 Years of American Illustration” and “The Illustrator in America: 1860-2000”.
