Rakesh Asthana, a Gujarat-born IPS officer from the 1984 batch, is known as the “Delhi Top Cop.” He is chosen to serve as CBI’s Special Director. Rakesh Asthana looked into the Fodder Scam, a corruption scandal involving the theft of approximately 9.4 billion rupees from Bihar. In 1996, he submitted a charge sheet against Lalu Prasad Yadav.On July 27, 2021, just three days before his retirement, the Narendra Modi administration appointed Rakesh as the new Delhi Police Commissioner. Until July 31, 2022, he will serve as Delhi Police Commissioner. In Dhanbad, Asthana discovered the DGMS Director General accepting bribes. Additionally, Asthana had looked into the situation involving Asaram Bapu and his son Narayan Sai. He received the The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services.
