“For casual players. 

Low-stress combat. Your choice of difficulty Your party auto-revives after defeat. Your choice of difficulty will not affect the story and can be changed at any time (excluding Merciless).”

Normal

“For experienced players. 

Moderately challenging combat. Your choice of difficulty will not affect the story and can be changed at any time (excluding Merciless).”

Hard

“For players who enjoy strategizing.

Significantly challenging combat. Your choice of difficulty will not affect the story and can be changed at any time (excluding Merciless).”

Merciless

“For highly advanced players. 

Exceedingly challenging combat. Your choice of difficulty will not affect the story and can be changed at any time, but you cannot return to Merciless once leaving it.”

Thankfully, no, Persona 3 Reload does not have any difficulty-based trophies in its trophy & achievements list. As long as you follow everything else in that list, you’ll be able to unlock the Persona 3 Reload platinum no matter which difficulty you choose to play.
