Overwatch 2 Season 12 start date, Space Ranger hero & more

With the player count slowly declining for Overwatch 2, Season 12 needs to bring some pretty big advancements to win over its players once more.

Thankfully, it seems likely that we’ll see a brand new Hero, and potentially some new maps and modes arrive in the upcoming content drop.

Here’s everything we know about Season 12 of Overwatch 2 so far, including its start date and all the expected additions.

Expected start date for Season 12

We expect Season 12 of Overwatch 2 to start on August 27, 2024. This is when Season 11 is due to finish, and given there’s never usually a gap between seasons, it implies that the next one will start immediately.

This is subject to change, of course. If there are any delays, Season 11 could easily run for a couple of weeks longer.

The tentpole addition that’s likely to arrive in Season 12 is Space Ranger, the 51st Hero to come to Overwatch 2.

Fitting the role of a Support Hero, Space Ranger was first teased at Blizzcon 2023 with early concept art of their design. She features a fairly futuristic, robot design, with what looks like gravity boots and a jetpack fitted to their suit.

We don’t have any information on their abilities just yet, but developer Alex Dawson revealed in a recent interview that they will “bring some utility that only one character has at the moment”.

Fans believe this utility could be some sort of speed boost ability, as Lucio is currently the only hero who can provide buffs of that nature.

Blizzard hasn’t confirmed that Space Ranger will definitely be coming in Season 12, but it did say that the hero was due to arrive in the second half of 2024. With only a couple of seasons left in the year, it seems likely that they’ll feature sooner rather than later.

Maps, modes and Battle Pass additions

We’re also yet to see a release date for the new Clash mode and its related map Hanaoka. It previously featured in a trial preview back in Season 10, but this was only as a limited-time mode for testing.

The mode sees teams battle it out over five capture points, with the frontline of the battle moving back and forth in a linear fashion. It’s essentially a reworked version of 2CP from the original Overwatch, which is an exciting prospect for veteran fans longing for some nostalgia.

As it’s been some time since Clash was first released as an LTM, it seems likely that the mode could be released properly before too long – and Season 12 seems like the ideal timeframe.

In addition, we know that we’ll be getting a brand new Battle Pass filled with cosmetic unlocks to grind through. A new Mythic Skin will accompany this, but we don’t know which hero it will be for just yet.

As soon as we know more about Overwatch 2 Season 12, we’ll update this article.
