Here’s how to pre-load Stellar Blade, its release time & download size on your PS5

With a slightly small download size, Stellar Blade is going to be a quick and easy game to pre-load onto your PS5 before its fast-approaching release time.

For those who’ve never pre-loaded an upcoming title onto their PlayStation 5 though, this simple guide will take you through all there is to know.

How to pre-load games on PS5

To pre-load Stellar Blade onto your PS5, or ‘pre-install’ as it’s also called, you’ll just need to pre-order the game on its PlayStation store page and then carry out the following steps on the console:

  • Go into your “Game Library” from the console home screen
  • Select the “Your Collection” tab
  • Select Stellar Blade
    • You’ll see a timer symbol in the game’s top-right corner
  • Select “Download”

Once that’s done, until Stellar Blade’s release, you’ll see a countdown timer – signalling how long there is left until it unlocks at a certain time.

When is the release time?

Stellar Blade will unlock at midnight in all territories on Friday, April 26, 2024 – as confirmed in a post by reliable leaker, PlayStation Game Size on X (formerly Twitter). This was also verified on the above PlayStation Store page for the game showing the same release time.

At this point, the game will then unlock on your PS5 and you’ll able to join EVE and co on her journey.

What is the download size?

Stellar Blade has a modest download size of 30.448GB, as confirmed by the same aforementioned post by PlayStation Download size.

I found this to be the most surprising given the huge amount of recent games with 90GB+ install sizes, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin; despite Stellar Blade being a more linear title, it was easy to assume the game’s high-quality cinematics would’ve made it at least double the size.

Nevertheless, the game’s main story is said to be about 25 hours – plus 30 to 50 hours for collectables – according to a RULIWEB interview with Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim, so being able to keep Stellar Blade so compact looks like an early showcase of the developer’s skill.
