Holder was convinced to join The N’ Betweens in 1966 by drummer Don Powell. The group already contained guitarist Dave Hill and bassist/keyboardist/violinist/songwriter Jim Lea.
Together, they created Ambrose Slade, which later changed its name to Slade and became one of the best-selling rock bands in Britain. Lea and Holder ended up being the band’s most successful songwriting duo, penning nearly all of the band’s compositions.
With its original lineup, the band recorded 21 hit songs and published 15 albums. Slade is well known for their song “Merry Xmas Everyone,” which was written by Holder and Lea.
Holder collaborated with Slade on the track in 1973, and it went on to become the group’s sixth number-one hit and the third Slade single to debut at the top of the UK Singles Chart right away. Over a million copies of “Merry Xmas Everybody” have been sold in the UK alone.
Holder departed Slade in 1992 after 26 years to pursue a career outside of music, working frequently as a radio host, television personality, actor, and voice-over artist.

The ad came after a string of teasers featuring Holder and was published on Iceland’s official social media pages and website with the hashtag #NotYetNoddy.
