Bob Baker Brother: Who Is Kent Valandra?: Bob Baker, officially known as Robert William Barker has died at the age of 99.
The American television game show host passed away on Saturday, 26 August 2023. Baker died of natural causes at his home near Los Angeles, his agent said.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker has left us,” his longtime publicist Roger Neal said in a statement on Saturday.
Baker was best known for hosting CBS’s The Price Is Right, the longest-running daytime game show in North American television history, from 1972 to 2007.
He also hosted Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1975. He retired in June 2007, telling his studio audience: “I thank you, thank you, thank you for inviting me into your home for all these years”
Barker won 19 Emmy awards during a radio and TV career that spanned six decades; 14 for gameshow host, and 4 as executive producer of “The Price Is Right”.
He also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1976 and in 1999, he received his 19th Emmy Award; a lifetime achievement Emmy for Daytime Television.
Baker was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2004 and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2008.
He was a strong advocate for animal rights and donated millions of dollars for this course. Barker also started a foundation, which has contributed millions to various causes over the years.
Following his demise, American actor and producer, Adam Sandler took to Instagram to remember their time filming Happy Gilmore together with a series of photos.
He wrote: “The man. The myth. The best. Such a sweet funny guy to hang out with. Loved talking to him. Loved laughing with him. Loved him kicking the crap out of me. He will be missed by everyone I know! Heartbreaking day. Love to Bob always and his family! Thanks for all you gave us!”
