Plenty of RPGs let you hide your helmet without losing the stat boosts from the item, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 sadly isn’t one of them.
Seeing your character’s face is a big deal for gamers who enjoy games like this. After all, why did I spend so long perfecting my character’s identity if it would be completely hidden for most of the game?
You can’t hide your helmet
As far as I can see in the settings menu, there’s no option to remove your helmet while retaining its stat benefits in Dragon’s Dogma 2 right now. I’ve scoured the inventory menu, as well as the settings menu to look for such a feature, but it doesn’t appear to exist in the current version of the game.
I’m not alone, either. Players have already taken to the Dragon’s Dogma 2 subreddit to voice helmet hiding as the ‘one thing everyone wants’ to be added to the game.
With so many players voicing their desire for such a feature, it’s not unreasonable to think that Capcom might add a ‘remove helmet’ option in a future update. However, there’s been no official communication on whether that will happen just yet – I’ll update this guide if anything changes.
How to completely remove your helmet

If you’re truly desperate to see your character’s likeness in Dragon’s Dogma 2, then you can take off your helmet altogether. You’ll lose the stat benefits, and it’s a bit of a pain to do regularly, but it’s certainly possible:
- Open the Items menu on the pause screen
- Navigate to the helmet icon along the top bar
- Select the helmet that you currently have equipped and choose ‘Remove’
Leaving the menu will show your character without their helmet, and you’ll be able to see their face in full during cutscenes, dialogue, and combat.
I don’t recommend leaving your helmet unequipped for the entire game, though. Helmets can provide valuable improvements to your defence and other stats depending on the one you have equipped. If you’re really bothered about seeing your character’s face in cutscenes, it’s worth removing it before you speak to major NPCs, and then re-equipping it once the conversation is over.
Where to get new helmets

You’ll come across helmets in chests and in quest rewards while on your travels in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but you can purchase new ones for yourself as soon as you reach the city of Vernworth.
You’ll need to play a short while through the game’s early stages before you get here, and you’ll know you’ve arrived in Vernworth after taking a trip on an Oxcart. Once you’re there, open up the map and look for a helmet icon to the North of the merchant quarter.
Interact with the merchant and you’ll see all of the helmets that they have to sell. Some of them cost a pretty penny though, so you and your pawns will need to do a bit of questing before you can afford them!
Of course, this isn’t the only place you can buy new helmets, but it’s likely the first place you’ll come across in your playthrough. Keep an eye out in other major cities for Armour vendors, denoted by the same helmet icon on the map.
