At the age of 11, she took her first steps into the world of athletics by joining the Perry Lakes Little Athletics club. In 2012, at the age of 14, Nina Kennedy made an impressive mark by securing second place in the senior Australian pole vault championships, achieving a personal best of 4.10 meters. Her progression continued, and a year later, she set a new personal record of 4.31 meters and finished fifth at the IAAF World Youth (U18) Championships. Her determination and hard work led to another personal best in 2014 when she vaulted 4.40 meters at the IAAF World Juniors, narrowly missing a medal by finishing fourth.

Nina’s senior career took off in February 2015 in Perth when she cleared 4.43 meters, followed by 4.50 meters and an astonishing 4.59 meters, setting a world junior record. This accomplishment earned her a spot in the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, although she encountered challenges in the qualification round.

In 2018, Nina Kennedy raised her personal best to 4.60 meters and, just a week later, achieved a vault of 4.71 meters, securing her place as the third-best Australian pole vaulter of all time. At the National Championships, she vaulted 4.60 meters and triumphed over New Zealand’s Olympic bronze medallist, Eliza McCartney.

Nina’s success extended to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where she won the bronze medal. Early in 2020, she cleared a height of 4.61 meters, marking her second-best performance ever, and consistently performed well, clearing 4.70 meters or higher in eight consecutive competitions.

Even while injured, Nina Kennedy participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, achieving a clearance of 4.40 meters, which placed her 12th in her qualifier.

In 2021, at the Sydney Track Classic, Nina raised the Australian record to an impressive 4.82 meters.

At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, she secured the bronze medal with a clearance of 4.80 meters, breaking the Australian record for the highest jump at a World Athletics Championships, surpassing the previous mark of 4.60 meters set by Alana Boyd in 2015. Following this success, she continued her winning streak by claiming the gold medal with a clearance of 4.60 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

In the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Nina Kennedy once again demonstrated her prowess by winning the gold medal, achieving a remarkable clearance of 4.90 meters, which she shared with the American athlete Katie Moon.
