Luke Shuey Social Media: Born on June 2, 1990, Luke Shuey is an Australian rules footballer.

He developed a passion for playing Australian rules football at a younger age, has been consistent throughout his career, and has emerged as one of the most sought-after Australian rules footballers.

At this time of writing (Tuesday, 8th August 2023), Shuey is the captain of the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League.

He was recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick 20 in the 2008 National Draft but made his AFL debut during the 2010 season due to a series of injuries.

In his AFL debut against the Brisbane Lions, he scored a goal with his first kick.

Shuey established himself in West Coast’s midfield line-up during the 2011 season, playing in all 25 of his team’s matches.

Shuey won the 2018 Norm Smith Medal for his brilliant performance against Collingwood in the AFL Grand Final, recording 34 possessions and a goal.

On 6 December 2019, it was announced that Shuey would become the 11th captain of the West Coast Eagles.

In August 2023, Shuey hit the headlines after he announced on Tuesday, 8th August 2023 that he would retire at season’s end after a 15-year career with the club.

“We have tried everything to get my body right so I can contribute as I would like, but unfortunately a series of hamstring injuries have led me to this decision,” Shuey said.

“I also have great confidence in the senior players who will take the club forward to guide an exciting group of youngsters.

“We are at an important phase of the rebuild, we’ll bring in more talented youngsters in this year’s draft and I know I will enjoy seeing them all make their mark on the competition in the coming years.

“I am incredibly grateful to the football club for the opportunities they have given me, the support I have received since the day I set foot in here and the very special memories that have been created.”
