At the NFL Combine, Fournette was rated as the third-best prospect and, coming out of college, was expected to be selected in the top ten of the draft. Five pounds heavier than his collegiate playing weight, he chose to just compete in the 40-yard dash and vertical jump at the NFL combine.

He decided to limit his participation in LSU’s Pro Day to positional drills. Pro Football Focus and Sports Illustrated placed him second behind Florida State’s Dalvin Cook at running back, but NFLDraftScout.com listed him as the top overall prospect.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, Fournette was chosen fourth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. In that year’s draft, he was the first running back selected. Fournette signed a four-year, $27 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on May 17, 2017, which included a $18 million signing bonus.

Fournette re-signed with the Buccaneers on March 23, 2022, to a $21 million, three-year deal. Week 1 saw Fournette sprint for 127 yards on 21 carries as Dallas was defeated 19-3.

He gained 139 scrimmage yards, one rushing score, and one receiving touchdown in the 21-15 victory over Atlanta in Week 5.

He gained 162 scrimmage yards in the Week 16 triumph over the Arizona Cardinals. Fournette gained 668 running yards and three rushing scores on 189 carries in the 2022 season. He also had 523 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns on 73 receptions.

Fournette was released by the Buccaneers on March 17, 2023. Fournette signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills practice squad on October 30, 2023.
