Legendary Ghanaian Commentator, Joe Lartey Reportedly Dead – Various reports we have sighted indicates that legendary Ghanaian commentator and sports journalist, Joe Lartey has passed on.

It was revealed that he passed on at the prime age of 96 years and his sad death reportedly occurred on Friday, April 26, 2024.

At the time of this report, no cause of death was known, however, looking at his advanced age, he might have died of natural causes.

About Joe Lartey

His full name is Joachim Awuley Lartey, and our checks revealed that he was born on 6 June 1927. His parents were known as Emmanuel Akushey Lartey and Madam Emma Araakua Lartey.

He is known to be an alumnus of the prestigious Accra Academy, an all-boys senior high school located in Accra.

Lartey began as a clerk at Accra Town Council and later trained as a teacher through a British Navy discharge program. Joining GBC in 1961, he excelled in sports commentary, coining the iconic phrase “Over to you Joe Lartey.” Active in trade unionism, he left GBC in 1973 for public relations, engaging in political opposition during the Supreme Military Council era. He relocated to Nigeria in 1990, working at Radio Nigeria. Upon return, he hosted shows on GTV and taught public speaking. Lartey, SWAG’s first president, remains a patron, currently teaching at Accra Film School.
