Laura Kenny was born to Glenda Trott and Adrian Trott. She shares the same parents as her elder sister, Emma Trott who is three years older than her. She is also a retired cyclist.
Her parents gave birth to her a month prematurely in Harlow, Essex with a collapsed lung and was later diagnosed with asthma.

At the age of just 18, Kenny qualified for the 2010 European Track Championships team pursuit squad by winning two junior titles at the 2009 and 2010 British National Track Championships and placing third in the latter event’s individual pursuit.

With her victory, Kenny became the first British athlete to win gold in three straight Olympics, surpassing Leontien van Moorsel to become the most successful female cyclist in Olympic history. She also tied Charlotte Dujardin for the most medals won by a British athlete.
In the omnium, a multi-rider crash on the penultimate lap severely damaged Kenny’s chances of winning a medal in the inaugural scratch event.
She managed to place 13th in the elimination race, but she went on to win the pace race. She finished sixth overall in the final points race, moving up from ninth place.
Later on, Kenny was chosen to represent the British team as the flag bearer during the Games’ closing ceremony. In March 2024, she declared her retirement from cycling.
