Under the ring name “Kevin Paine,” Lee made his independent circuit debut in 2005, having received training from Tim Brooks. He started wrestling under his own name in 2008.

Almost all of Lee’s ten-year career was spent in his native Texas, where he competed for promotions like River City Wrestling (San Antonio), North American Wrestling Allegiance (Waxahachie), Metroplex Wrestling (Bedford), Professional Championship Wrestling (Arlington), and Xtreme Championship Wrestling (Denton).

Lee and Li Fang won the TNT Championship, the Xtreme Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, and the North American Wrestling Allegiance Tag Team Championship during this time. Lee started to wrestle outside of Texas more regularly in 2015.

With Shane Taylor, Lee began participating in Ring of Honor in 2015. Together, they went by the moniker “Pretty Boy Killers” (PBK). PBK competed in a gauntlet tag match for the ROH World Tag Team Championship on August 27, 2016, during Field of Honor; nevertheless, The Addiction prevailed.

In an unsuccessful attempt to become the top contender for the ROH tag team championship, PBK competed in a Four Corner Survival match at All-Star Extravaganza VIII against The All Night Express, War Machine, Colt Cabana, and Dalton Castle.

Taylor made the announcement that he has inked his first deal with the Ring of Honor in January 2017. After joining Evolve in January 2017, Lee faced Chris Hero in his first match at Evolve 76 and lost. On February 24, he returned and defeated Zack Sabre Jr. at Evolve 78.

On March 18, 2017, Lee made his debut in a Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) match at the Nice Boys (Don’t Play Rock N’ Roll) event. He faced off against Brian Cage and Sami Callihan in a triple-threat match, which Cage ultimately won.

He ran into Jeff Cobb in the Game Over, Man tournament and lost. He defeated Trevor Lee on May 19 at Head Like A Cole to win his PWG debut.

Lee was given the opportunity to test out for WWE in 2008 before he signed a formal contract, albeit this did not lead to a job offer. He played a security guard in an extra appearance on the Raw show from March 30, 2009.

Lee made his cameo for NXT on April 5, 2018, during WrestleMania Axxess weekend, and he defeated Kassius Ohno.

Lee sustained an injury that was not revealed on March 7, 2019. His scheduled rivalry with Dominik Dijakovic, whom he was meant to play for the next two months, was prematurely ended by the injury. On April 18, Lee made a comeback appearance at a house show in Lakeland, Florida.

In order to become the top contender for the NXT North American Championship, Lee defeated Damian Priest, Dominik Dijakovic, and Cameron Grimes in a fatal four-way match on the January 8, 2020, episode of NXT. On the January 22, 2020, episode of NXT, Lee defeated Roderick Strong to win the title.

Lee unexpectedly made his AEW debut on the February 9, 2022, episode of AEW Dynamite. He defeated Isiah Kassidy to earn a spot in the “Face of the Revolution” ladder match at Revolution, in which Wardlow ultimately prevailed.

Along with Parker Boudreaux, Granden Goetzman, and renowned rapper Rick Ross, Strickland established a new stable, Mogul Affiliates, on the December 21 episode of Dynamite.

Lee was laid out on the steel ring stairs by Strickland, Boudreaux, and Goetzman, who collectively put a stop to the Swerve In Our Glory team. Strickland executed his signature Swerve Stomp finishing move through a cinder block on Lee’s chest.
