After leaving Arsenal F.C. in 2006 to join the academy of Tottenham Hotspur, Livermore began his career there. He made 39 appearances for the under-18 squad and scored nine goals.

Along with teammate Tom Huddlestone, Livermore moved to Hull City at the start of the 2013–14 season on a season-long loan. On the first day of the season, he made his debut in a 0–2 away loss to Chelsea when he replaced Danny Graham off the bench.

Livermore started the match between Hull and Arsenal in the 2014 FA Cup final, which ended in a 3-2 loss at Wembley Stadium following extra time.

Livermore was chosen to play as a center-back alongside recently promoted Curtis Davies at the beginning of the 2016–17 campaign because Hull only had one fully fit recognized center-back at that position.

Livermore stated that he was teasing him about his 2014 infant son’s death when he got into a fight with a West Ham United supporter at the London Stadium on January 2, 2018.

On April 21, 2018, Livermore scored his first goal for the Baggies in his 50th game, and the team rallied from behind to draw 2–2 with Liverpool.

He scored the lone goal in a home victory over his old team, Tottenham, two weeks later, preventing his team from being demoted right away.
