While the world certainly has several decent-sized maps, Alan Wake 2 is not strictly open-world. After completing the third chapter for each character, the game opens up and you’ll be able to roam around the likes of Bright Falls and Cauldron Lake freely, but don’t go expecting a Spider-Man 2 or Zelda: Tears of Kingdom level of freedom.
As Saga especially, you can use your car to travel between the different areas in the Pacific Northwest, so you’re not going to be staying on the same map.

Alan Wake 2 is split into two stories, that of Alan Wake himself and newcomer, Saga Anderson – and each of them has their own world to run around in and you can eventually switch between them to complete in any order you like.
Once you reach the third chapter for each character, you can complete the remaining stories in any order you want, and given that Alan Wake 2 is full of twists and turns, linearity is out the window in the best possible way.
