Huge Blow for Team India | Shubman Gill Fitness Update

The announcement that India’s great batter Shubman Gill will be absent from his team’s match against Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is a devastating blow to India. Gill has been battling Dengue and was unable to participate in India’s opening match of the World Cup against Australia in Chennai because of his illness. Following the game, India issued a statement saying that the right-hander would not be travelling to Delhi for the next World Cup tournament that the hosts would be playing in.

Aakash Chopra has criticised the administration of the Indian national team for their lack of transparency over the health of Shubman Gill in preparation for the World Cup in 2023. On his YouTube channel, Chopra vented his frustrations by stating,

“Shubman Gill is ill. He still needs to get fit. The Indian team has determined that they won’t tell us clearly and we can continue to speculate. We can claim it’s dengue or whatever else we want, but they won’t tell us.”

Ishan Kishan will continue to partner skipper Rohit Sharma as an opener in the absence of Gill. Even the participation of Shubman Gill in the high-voltage match against arch-rival Pakistan is also in doubt.

India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour said on the eve of the India-Afghansitan match,

“He is recovering well; he was hospitalized yes, but that was more as a precaution. He is back in the hotel [in Chennai]. He is looking good, being monitored by the medical team. Whatever update we get, we are hoping that he will recover pretty soon,”
