How to use Quick Weapon & swap items fast on controller in Fortnite

Quick Weapon is a brand-new setting exclusive to controller players designed to allow users to swap items faster than ever in Fortnite. Historically, keyboard and mouse users had an edge over controller players when it comes to Fortnite, but that’s no longer so. This primer will teach you how to get the most out of Quick Weapon and swap items fast on controller in the free-to-play battle royale from Epic Games.

Quick Weapon is a new setting under Controller Options that allows controller players to swap to whichever of their five items they want instantly, rather than needing to cycle through their entire arsenal, one by one, to get to the specific item they desire.

How to enable and use Quick Weapon

To use Quick Weapon, navigate to your Controller Options under Settings and enable Quick Weapon. By default, Quick Weapon replaces Next Weapon, and Previous Weapon is replaced by Place Marker.

Holding Quick Weapon will bring up the Quick Weapon diamond. The Quick Weapon diamond shows how the face buttons on your controller match up with the items in your inventory. Press Quick Weapon and a face button simultaneously to swap to specific items instantaneously.

Pressing Quick Weapon individually will switch to your primary item. Your primary item is whatever you have situated in your first slot.

After you enable Quick Weapon, you can further tailor the settings to your heart’s desire! Naturally, there is no delay for how long you must hold Quick Weapon for the Quick Weapon diamond to appear on the HUD. However, you can add a delay if you’d like and even get rid of the Quick Weapon diamond entirely once you get familiar with and memorise the face buttons for each of the item slots.

Another Quick Weapon setting you can adjust is how Quick Weapon behaves when your primary item is already equipped. By default, tapping Quick Weapon again will swap to the item in slot two, but you can change this and make it swap to your previous item instead or make it so pressing it does nothing at all.

Feel free to customise these settings however you see fit, but in general, once you master using Quick Weapon, you should turn off the Quick Weapon diamond. The Quick Weapon diamond takes up a lot of space on the HUD and can be distracting, so if you don’t need it anymore, you might as well disable it.

Also, setting your Toggle Behaviour to slot two or previously equipped item definitely helps in hectic combat situations. Enabling either of these options under Toggle Behaviour allows you to swap back and forth between your favourite items with no delay.

That’s about all there is to Quick Weapon in Fortnite. It will take some getting used to, but once you master Quick Weapon, you will be able to swap items extremely fast on controller and take your game to the next level!
