If you have read our various posts on editing and hacking your PS Vita, then you know that the first root hack can finally happen on the system thanks to a vulnerability in the PSM application. Dev and PSM Unity were there not too long ago.
However, to be able to use this new hacking tool, you will need a PSM developer license, which Sony no longer offers.
Thankfully, there’s a new way to get a renewable PSM license called PSM+, a service created by the Vita hacking community and offered for free.
Now that you know the basics, learn how to use PSM+ to get a developer license, which will let you run your first native homebrew on your PS Vita later.
What you will need:
- The Developer PSM (or PSM Dev Unity) installed on your PS Vita. If you don’t have any of these PSM apps, go to this to learn how to install them on your PS Vita.
- The email account is set up on the Email app on your PS Vita.
- Download and install the PSM SDK (it will show 3 apps when installed).
- Create an account on the /Talk forum on Wololo.net (membership is free and required to access PSM+ services).
Ready?
Step 1: Open this website (make sure you are logged in to the /Talk forum before accessing the website), scroll down to the section shown below and click on that link to access the PSM+ page.
Once there, click the top link (I’m using PSM+ for the first time…)
Note: Currently, this process does not work on official firmware (OFW) 3.52 or later versions.
Step 2: On the next page, enter your email address (the one you set up on your PS Vita) and also enter the name of your device.
To get your device name, open Publishing Utility apps that you previously installed and turned on Wi-Fi on your PS Vita.
Next, connect your PS Vita to your computer and on your PS Vita, open Developer PSM application. Its device name will appear on the right panel of the application as a series of numbers.
Enter those numbers in the required field in the website then click Submit button.
Step 3: When you click Submit, you will receive both an email and a download. The downloaded file will have the key/seed needed to run the native hacks through PSM Dev.
But to activate that file, you need to open the email sent to you on PS Vita.
Step 4: On your PS Vita, start by closing Developer PSM application. Then open Email app and search for new messages. You will have a new email with five different attachments there. Open the email and follow it carefully.
Tap the first attachment to open it, and after a while you’ll get an error message. DO NOT TAP THEN ALRIGHT BUTTON. Instead, just press the . button Postscript button and close Email application.
Then open Email app again and repeat the process above, but this time by tapping on the second attachment. When you get the error message, close Email app (remember not to tap ALRIGHT). Then repeat the process for each of the remaining attachments there.
Once done, close Email application, open Developer PSM app and connect your Vita to the computer.
Step 5: On your computer unzip and open the previously downloaded file. Then on Publishing Utility app, use the buttons shown below to enter Publisher Keythe Equipment seed and App key ring corresponding file.
When ready, go to the PSM+ website and click next tutorial. Here, you will have to enter your email again to receive a new email with some special attachments. Do so and click Submit. Then go back to your PS Vita.
Step 6: On your PS Vita now, repeat the process outlined in Step 4 with the new email you received, this time with two attachments. After you open and close each one, close Email application and open Developer PSM app and it will let you know via notification that you now have a developer license!
Important Note: This developer license is valid for 24 hours. You can then ‘renew’ by repeating Step 6 of this process.
That’s everyone
Your go. Using this process now you can also get developer privileges and run original hacks on your PS Vita. Go ahead and we’ll also show you how to run your first homebrew and more.
