The Health app on your iPhone helps you to log your physical activities and measure your workouts. You can count your daily steps, sleep schedule, monitor headphone volume, and even set your medication reminders using the Health app. With the iOS 17 update, Apple has taken another step forward to enable you to take care of your mental health.
The new software update introduces the feature of Mental Wellbeing for users to reflect on their own state of mind and take steps to improve their mental health. This post explains how to use Mental Wellbeing in the Apple Health app on your iPhone.
Do note that we are using the iOS 17 Public Beta and iPadOS 17 Public Beta for the purpose of this post. The Mental Wellbeing tools will be available during the stable release as well.
Apple Health’s Mental Wellbeing Feature Explained
Mental Health holds equal importance as your physical health. And to help users track their moods and state of mind, the Health app on iPhone offers many new, intuitive Mental Wellbeing tools. After you start using this feature for some time, you will see your mental health insights that will help you recognize the factors contributing to your state of mind. Here’s how to use the feature.
Step 1: Open the Health app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on Browse at the bottom-right corner.
Step 3: Select Mental Wellbeing.
Step 4: Scroll down and tap on Get Started.
Step 5: Tap on Begin at the bottom of the splash screen.
Step 6: Choose whether you want to log your emotion or mood and tap on Next.
Step 7: Swipe the slider to the left or right to select your emotional state.
You will see different multi-dimensional shapes and animations appear on your screen depending on the range of emotions.
Step 8: Tap on Next to proceed.
Step 9: Select the emotional reasons behind why you are feeling the way you are and tap on Next.
Step 10: Select the reason(s) behind your feelings and tap on Done.
After you have logged how you feel, you can also set a reminder to do the same.
You can keep tracking your mental health using the same steps. Just tap on Log at the top-right side.
You can also look at your daily entries by tapping the Calendar icon at the top-right corner.
Edit or Remove Mental Wellbeing Data on iPhone
Here’s how to edit or remove your recorded data in Mental Wellbeing.
Step 1: Open the Health app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on Browse at the bottom-right corner and select Mental Wellbeing.
Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom and select Show All Data.
Step 4: Tap on Edit at the top-right corner.
Step 5: Tap the minus icon next to the recorded data or select Delete All at the top-left corner.
How to Use Mental Wellbeing on iPad
Since the Health app is available after the iPadOS 17 update, here’s how to use the Mental Wellbeing feature.
Step 1: Open the Health app on your iPad.
Step 2: Tap on Mental Wellbeing on the left side.
Step 3: Tap on Get Started on the right side.
Step 4: Choose whether you want to log your emotion or mood and tap on Get Started.
Step 5: Use the slider to select your emotional state of being and tap on Next.
Step 6: Following the on-screen steps to log your emotions or mood. Be mindful and take your time.
Step 7: Tap on Done to finish the process.
Like on your iPhone, you can tap on Log whenever you feel like during your day.
You can also tap the Calendar icon at the top-right corner to check your daily logs.
Mental Health Questionnaire in Health App on iPhone
Along with using the mental health tracker, you can also opt for an assessment often used in clinics to treat common conditions like anxiety, depression, and more. This will help you to understand further if you are at mild or high risk of experiencing the symptoms and take necessary actions to treat them. Here’s how to use the Mental Health Questionnaire in the Health App on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Health app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on Browse at the bottom-right corner and select Mental Wellbeing.
Step 3: Tap on State of Mind.
Step 4: Scroll down and select Take Questionnaire.
Step 5: Select your age group and tap Begin at the bottom.
Step 6: Keep answering the questions that appear on your screen. Take your time and carefully answer them for the most accurate assessment.
Step 7: Tap on Done after answering the last question.
You will now see your results of the risk levels of experiencing a particular symptom.
Scroll down and tap on Export PDF to get a detailed report for sharing with your doctor.
Scroll down to the bottom to contact the resources available in your region to seek help.
