It’s easier to turn off Windows updates in older versions like Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 because there’s an option available in your PC’s settings that allows users to delay update download and installation. update until resuming it manually.
But Microsoft removed this feature from Update and Security settings in Windows 10.

Although the creators of Windows have removed the direct option to delay Windows updates, there is a way around this problem.
How to disable Windows 10 updates?
Don’t worry, the alternative doesn’t require any additional software downloads or complicated command prompts.
The workaround manifests as a vulnerability in Windows 10’s settings that doesn’t download any updates on a metered connection.
Normally, for users who are not using the Enterprise edition of Windows, all updates will be downloaded and installed automatically, but if you set your active internet connection as a access, updates will not be downloaded.
To set your active network as a traffic connection, go to Windows Settings and click ‘Network & Internet’.
On the next window, click the ‘Wi-Fi’ option on the side panel and select ‘Manage known networks’.
Now click ‘Properties’ of your active network connection and enable the ‘Set as metered connection’ button under ‘Measured connections’ on the new page.
This will do the trick. Now, until you are connected to a network marked as metered connection on your PC, Windows will not download any updates or install them.

But remember, it’s important to keep your Windows up to date, if not for new features, security updates to prevent your PC from being held hostage by a ransomware as well.
So whenever you find yourself free, just turn off ‘Measured Connections’ and turn it on once the update is complete and installed.
