Picture this — you’re reading an important piece of news on a web page when a pop-up ad appears on your iPhone or iPad. You close it once thinking it will go away. But alas! Pop-ups keep bugging you over and over again.
When you double-check the pop-up ad a little, you’ll be elated to learn that you’ve won the lottery or another iPhone. It’s time to burst your bubble. The ads are fake. Whether you get ‘congratulations, you’ve won an iPhone’ or ‘your phone has a virus’ or ‘gift card from Amazon’ and similar pop-ups — they’re all fake pose.
However, let me make one other thing clear that these pop-up ads cannot indicate a virus on your phone through the browser. These ads are primarily designed to entice customers to enter their personal and financial (credit/debit card) information. So don’t enter details through any pop-ups.
Does that mean there is no way to stop these annoying ads? Of course not. You can remove and stop these ads on your iPhone by following the fixes mentioned below. Let’s check them out.
1. Clear browsing history
Here’s how to clear your browsing history on Safari and Google Chrome.
Safari Browser
Step 1: Close the page that shows you pop-up ads. For that, tap the rightmost icon at the bottom in the Safari browser. Then swipe the page left to close the page. Alternatively, close the Safari browser.
Step 2: Open the Settings app and go to Safari.
Step 3: Scroll down and tap Clear history and website data. A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm your decision. Using this option will clear your browsing history, site data, and cookies. Tap Clear history and data.
Also, if the steps seem too harsh, you can only clear your website data, not your browsing history. For that, tap Advanced in Settings > Safari. Then tap on Site data.
You will find the data used by each website listed here. You can now delete individual sites (if you’re sure it’s responsible for the ads) by tapping Edit and tapping the delete icon next to the site. Or, just scroll down and you will find Clear all site data. A confirmation pop-up will appear. Click Delete.
Step 4: Restart your phone. Hopefully those obnoxious pop-up ads won’t bother you anymore.
Google Chrome
Step 1: Similar to Safari, close the page responsible for showing you pop-ups. For that, tap the new tab icon at the bottom. Then tap the cross icon to close the tab on the next screen.
Step 2: Tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of Chrome and select History from there.
Step 3: Tap on Clear browsing data followed by Clear browsing data again on the next screen.

2. Block Pop-up Ads
Next, try blocking pop-up ads using the built-in feature of both Safari and Chrome browsers. For that, follow these steps:
Safari Browser
Step 1: Open the Settings app and go to Safari.
Step 2: Turn on the switch shown next to Block pop-ups and phishing site warnings. The switch will turn green. While the first option will block pop-up ads, the latter will warn you when you visit a suspicious website.
Google Chrome
Step 1: In Chrome, tap the three-dot icon and select Settings from the menu.
Step 2: Tap Content Settings, then select Pop-up Blocker.
Step 3: Turn on the switch next to Block Pop-ups.

3. Reset advertiser identifier
Another thing you can try to prevent annoying pop-ups is to reset the advertising identifier. For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: In the Settings app, navigate to Privacy.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap Ads.
Step 3: Tap Reset Advertising Identifier, then Reset Identifier.
Step 4: Restart your iPhone.
4. Remove problematic apps
Did you install any new apps recently? Many users have suggested that installing a sketchy app also causes problems. If you installed a new app, uninstall it. After uninstalling, restart your phone and clear the browser history for Safari or your default browser as mentioned above.
5. Delete Bookmarks
Sometimes the problem also occurs with a frequently visited website that you open through your bookmarks. If that’s the case, delete the bookmark. Then, reopen the site with Google or your favorite search engine and add the bookmarks again.
6. Install Ad Blocker
