It can be worth spending some time in Fortnite watching other players, especially if you want to pick up on some strategies or tactics to help you improve your skill level. While the game is super simple to pick up and play – owing to its large player count – there is a high skill ceiling due to all the mechanics and features.
So, learn how you can spectate other players in Fortnite.
How to spectate
You have the option of watching your friends play Fortnite quite easily, but you can also watch random players, though this is more restrictive. We’ll cover both below.
Watching friends
Obviously, you need to be friends with the person you want to spectate first. From here:
- Join your friend’s lobby
- Let them enter a game and then accept a party invitation
- Wait until they’ve landed in the game
- The ‘Watch’ option should appear at the bottom of the screen
- Select this to spectate them until they die

When it comes to spectating strangers and random players it’s fairly limited, as you cannot spectate someone from the pre-lobby anymore. The only way to do this is to play an actual game, and then when you die, you can spectate the person who killed you.
If that player also gets eliminated, you’ll switch to their perspective, which will carry on until someone wins the game, letting you see the chain of events unfold in full.
There used to be a Watch Game feature in Fortnite where you could essentially spectate anyone, but it got removed due to how easy it made stream sniping and ruining other players’ games.
