After paying little attention to all the files you’ve downloaded for years, there comes a time when you start thinking about cleaning up the disorganized mess. But it is not an easy task. You need to first set the priority for the files that you will use the most, and then start creating the appropriate folders for them. And most can rename existing ones and delete unnecessary ones. It is a time consuming task for sure where we need to deal with many files and folders.

To ease this work, I would like to introduce you to a nice little tool that can save you a lot of time messing around in the file explorer. It’s called ExtraBits. It gives you the ability to copy multiple filenames and even rename them with just a few clicks. And, not only that. It has a good list of commands. Let’s explore together.
Copy multiple filenames and their paths
The tool actually creates a sub-menu in the right-click menu option. All commands will be available in ExtraBits.
It has many useful commands but I will share some important commands here. The first command is to copy the name of a specific file or directory or multiple names. Select the command that will copy the filenames of all selected files and folders. You can even go a step further and perform advanced tasks like copying location paths.
To do so, select Copy filename with Option. This will open a new dialog box where you have access to advanced options.
Here, you have full control over what you select and copy. In the folder options, you can choose which files and subfolders you specifically want and exclude those you don’t.
This can be especially useful when you are dealing with files with a specific extension. In addition, you can copy the path of files and even modify the path structure before copying them. presets are available. However, you can even create your own. For programmers you have a preset to copy the file path as an Array.
Easily rename multiple files
Select Rename many times from the submenu and you will get this dialog. Now, to change the filename, you need to first copy the name and paste it in your favorite text editor and edit the name there. Make sure the names are sorted according to the selection you made, otherwise the wrong name will be added. Also, make sure that each name is on a new line. Now copy these edited names and click name stickers in the dialog box.
Alternatively, you can add a prefix and suffix to filenames with similar text. You can even change them to uppercase or lowercase and truncate names to specific lengths.

In the configuration settings, you can select the specific commands you want in the submenu and even add the most used commands in the main menu. There is also a description table for each command. And, you can always use Restore to default if you mess up.
Conclusion
It’s one of the best tools I’ve always wanted to install on my PC. I may not use it every day but it certainly helps. Also, it would be great if it had a portable version. Well, that reminds me that this tool has its limits. With the free version, you can only select 100 files/folders at a time. For more, you need to purchase a Pro license.
