How to Share Files on iOS Using ThingThing Keyboard

After iOS opened the door to third-party keyboards, we saw a lot of developers come up with cool keyboards that weren’t just limited to text input. In addition to the usual keyboards like Swiftkey and Fleksy, we also have some fun keyboards that give you crazy cat GIFs to share with your friends. It’s fun, but then you grow it when you can’t share it on WhatsApp, Viber and other messaging services and it’s limited to iMessage only.

keyboard of all things

A few days ago we used a really productive keyboard for iOS called ReBoard that eases multitasking on iPhone. It’s a feature-rich product but costs US$1.99 with in-app purchases for some components like Dropbox and other things you need to use. For those who are looking for an alternative just to share files and photos easily with the keyboard, we have found a free keyboard that you can install and use.

Thingthing Keyboard for iOS

Things Keyboard (I find the product name a bit strange) for iOS to achieve the motto ‘Switch less’. Do more.’ Using the keyboard, you can connect various online file and photo sharing services and type them directly into email and instant messages, including third-party apps like WhatsApp and Viber. So go ahead and install the app to try out the new keyboard. It’s free.

After you have installed the keyboard, do not launch the application directly. The first thing you have to do is enable the keyboard for iOS. Open iOS Setting and navigate to General->Keyboard. Here choose items under the keyboard and give it full access on iOS. That’s it, you can now open the app and start the initial configuration.

The first of many permissions the app will ask you for is to access your photos and calendar. Enabling them is crucial if you really want to get the most out of the keyboard. There are many services that you can connect like Facebook, Flickr, Instagram to share photos along with Google Drive and Dropbox to share files. OneDrive services are due for the app’s next update, but a pretty good list to start with.

Now, let’s say you want to send a photo on Facebook to your contact on WhatsApp. First, open the chat window and initialize the ThingThing keyboard. Navigate to the Facebook tab where you will see recent photos uploaded to Facebook. After you select a photo and tap the upload button, the photo is copied to the clipboard and can be pasted into an email or chat screen.

Good tip: Using this tip you can email more than 5 photos using mail app easily. When you compose an email, open the photos app on the ThingThing keyboard and insert all the pictures you want to send. The easier way is to attach photos one by one.

The option to share articles directly from the Pocket app is also very innovative. Initially, it had some problems with Google Drive, but after reconnecting the services, everything is fine.

Conclusion

I am quite satisfied after using the keyboard. There’s no option to enter text like in ReBoard, but I really don’t even need it with Swift Key as my default keyboard. I hope the developer will add more services in the future. I would give the app a top 5 rating in terms of concept, implementation, and price. What do you think?
