Thanks to features like Emergency SOS, Collision Detection, and more, Apple Watch aims to help save lives. However, such life-saving features are not limited to the Apple Watch. Even the iPhone offers similar features to help protect you and your loved ones in the event of an accident or medical emergency.

Medical ID is the new feature for storing medical details and emergency contacts on your iPhone. These details are quickly accessible to first responders and paramedics in the event of an emergency. Easy access to these important details can help someone save your life. So here’s a guide on how to set up and access Medical ID on your iPhone.

Step 2: In the Health app, tap your profile picture located in the upper right corner.

Step 3: From the list of options that appear, tap Medical ID.

Step 4: On the Medical ID page, tap the Get Started button.

Step 5: Enter your full name and tap the green ‘+’ icon followed by text fields to add relevant medical details. You can also tap the add photo option to add a photo to your Medical ID.

Step 6: After adding your medical information, tap the add emergency contact option to designate an emergency contact.

Step 7: Make sure that the Show when locked toggle is enabled. That will help people see your medical details from the iPhone’s lock screen.

After setting up a Medical ID, let’s see how to see someone’s Medical ID during a medical emergency.

How to access Medical ID from iPhone lock screen

Apple iOS offers two ways for someone to access Medical ID on an iPhone without unlocking it.

1. Access Medical ID from lock screen

Apple makes it easy for anyone to quickly access Medical ID on their iPhone right from the Lock screen. Swipe up on the lock screen and tap the Emergency option located below the Passcode keyboard, followed by Medical ID. Here’s how you can do the same on any iPhone.

To use this method, press and hold one of the Volume and Power buttons to access your iPhone’s power menu. When you see the ‘slide to power off’ screen, there will be an option for Medical ID above Emergency Calls.

Slide your finger from left to right on the Medical ID slider to access medical details. You should show your family and children how to access it.
