How to Reopen or Replay Snaps on Snapchat

With Snapchat, you can share and receive Snaps straight to your inbox. This way, you can freely share what you want only with your friends. However, there may be times when you would want to revisit a previously viewed Snap. To do this, reopen or replay the Snap on Snapchat.

How to Reopen or Replay Snaps on Snapchat

You can replay a Snap using the replay option already available on Snapchat. However, it only allows a limited number of replays, and that too within a limited time window. But what if you want to reopen or replay Snaps on Snapchat multiple times? Is there a way? Let’s find out.

1. Using the Replay Option

Once a Snap has been played, Snapchat gives you the option of instantly replaying it. This is helpful if you’ve accidentally closed the first Snap preview or want to see the opened Snap again for some information. However, note that this will send a notification in the Chat window for Snap replay. Follow the below steps to do it.

Note: Snapchat+ users can replay a Snap twice. Otherwise, you can only replay the Snap once.

Step 1: Open Snapchat and, in the Chat window, go to the Snap you wish to replay. Tap on the Chat.

Step 2: Long-press the previously played Snap for more options.

Open the Snap

Step 3: Here, tap on Replay.

Tip: You can also use the Save in Chat option to save the Snap in the Chat window. Once done, you can replay the Snap as long as it is available.

Step 4: Then, tap on the Snap again to replay it.

2. Turning On Airplane Mode

Airplane Mode turns off all radio communication, allowing you to operate it incognito. You can use this to your advantage when replaying a Snap. Once done, you must delete and re-install the Snapchat app. This can help you eliminate the Snap replay notification that will inevitably appear, allowing you to replay a snap without them knowing.

However, certain new updates to Snapchat might still allow the app to send the replay notification. Follow the below steps if you would like to give it a try.

Step 1: Open Snapchat and tap on the Chat icon.

Step 2: Once the Chat window opens, wait for the Snap to load.

Load the Snap

Step 3: Then, swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings on your Android device.

iPhone users can either swipe down from the top-left corner or, if your device has a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Control Center.

Step 4: Here, tap on the Airplane icon to enable Airplane Mode.

Step 5: Then, go to the Snapchat app and tap on the relevant Snap.

Open Snap

Step 6: Once the Snap has been opened, hold and once the option becomes available, tap on it again to replay the Snap.

Step 7: Now, exit the Snapchat app. Long-press on the Snapchat iOS app for more options. Here, tap on Remove App.

Step 8: Then, tap on Delete App. If prompted, tap on Delete to confirm.

Step 9: Wait for Snapchat to finish uninstalling. Then, turn off Airplane Mode using the above steps.

Re-install the Snapchat app on your device and sign in again.

3. Take a Screenshot of the Snap

One of the easiest ways to see opened snaps again, without using the replay option, is by taking a screenshot. This will allow you to revisit the Snap as often as you want. However, thanks to Snapchat’s privacy options, a message will be sent in the Chat window announcing the said screenshot. To avoid that, you can use certain indirect ways to take screenshots on Snapchat without them knowing.

4. Using Screen Recording

Your iPhone and Android devices have screen recording apps that allow you to record your current activity. This video will then be saved in the relevant app for easy access. This method allows you to rewatch Snapchat Stories, replay Snaps, etc. This can be helpful when replaying video Snaps. Here’s how to do it.

Note: When using the Snapchat iOS app, we noticed Snapchat was sending screen recording notifications in the Chat window, regardless of whether the device was connected to the internet. No such notification was sent when using the Snapchat Android app.

Step 1: Swipe down from the top-left corner of the screen to open Control Center on your iPhone. Or, if your device has a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Android users can swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Settings menu.

Step 2: Here, tap on the screen recording icon.

Open Screen recording

Once the screen recording starts, open Snapchat and replay the Snap. Then, turn off the screen recording. You can now access the screen recording to replay the Snap more than twice on Snapchat. If you cannot find the relevant option, edit the Control Center menu on your iPhone or the Quick Settings panel on your Android device and add the screen recording tile for easy access.

5. Using the Half-Swipe Feature

If you last updated your Snapchat app a while ago, you’re in luck. This is because certain older versions of the app still support the half-swipe feature. Using this, you can peek into the Snap without fully opening it. This will allow you to see the contents of the Snap as many times as you want since the Snap was never actually opened on Snapchat. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Open the Snapchat app and tap on the Chat icon.

Step 2: Here, go to the Snap you wish to view. Then, hold the Snap and simultaneously swipe towards the right.

Use half swipe on Snapchat

Step 3: Stop once the Snap is partially visible. Then, once you’ve viewed the Snap, slowly swipe left to go back to the main Chat window configuration.

However, as mentioned before, this feature might not be available in certain newer app versions. In this case, you can use any of the above ways to replay the Snap on Snapchat.

Note: Certain third-party apps can also help you replay Snaps multiple times on Snapchat. However, this will require access to your Snapchat account and other user data. Hence, we strongly advise against using this option.

Revisit Snaps on Snapchat
