How to Remove Bing Chat Button From Microsoft Edge

ChatGPT-3 was a hot topic of discussion until Microsoft decided to launch and integrate Bing Chat in the Microsoft Edge browser. While this may be an optional feature, the latest Edge browser update will pin a large Bing chat button in the top right corner. At the time of writing, there is no direct way to disable the obnoxious big Bing Chat button from the browser settings.

That said, you can remove it if it bothers you a lot. Technically, Microsoft doesn’t give you a choice but to roll back to an older version of Edge, but that’s not a good idea. But don’t lose hope. We will discuss many methods to use so that you can disable the Bing Chat button forever. Let’s get started.

1. Remove Bing chat button by editing edge shortcut

You can easily remove the Bing Chat button using the Edge Browser settings. Microsoft Edge browser update version 111 and later has this option to disable the Bing chat button. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge browser, type edge://settings/sidebar, and press Enter.

Step 2: Scroll down to the App and notification settings section. Click the Explore option found in the app-specific Settings.

Step 3: Click the toggle next to Show Discover option to disable the Bing Chat button.

2. Remove Bing chat button with keyboard shortcut

After the new update, Microsoft Edge is automatically configured to launch with the new Bing Chat button feature. So we’re going to modify the Edge shortcut that will launch the browser without a specific policy preventing the Bing Chat button from loading. The only drawback of this solution is that it is an alternative and a future Edge update may disable it. Alternatively, you’ll just need to run the Edge browser using the modified keyboard shortcut.

We will disable Startup Boost first, otherwise modifying won’t work. Repeat the following steps:

Step 1: Open Edge browser and navigate to the address bar. Type edge://settings/system and press Enter.

In this method, we will not only remove the Bing Chat button but the entire sidebar from Edge. We will be adding a new key to the Windows Registry, so make a backup of the Registry before trying this method. If things go south, you can always import an old registry backup. Here’s how to remove the Bing Chat button using Command Prompt on Windows 11.

Step 1: Press the Windows key, type cmdand click Run as administrator option.

Remove the sidebar

Step 2: User Account Control will pop up. Click the Yes button to open the Command Prompt.

Step 3: Type the following commands one by one and execute them by pressing Enter.

reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge” reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge” /v HubsSidebarEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 00000000 /f

Step 4: Close the Command Prompt window and restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

No more Bing chat button in Edge

Microsoft is trying to subvert Google’s search experience by offering an AI-powered search option in Edge. Bing Chat attempts to answer queries but does not guarantee accuracy. But if you find this feature getting in your way, you can use any of the three methods to disable it on your computer. While these methods can be considered as a workaround, and we’re not sure if Microsoft will allow them to work with future versions of the Edge browser.
