If you’re finding that random players keep joining you and your friends on Helldivers 2, you may need to learn how to make a private lobby that only includes those who you invite.
The game is all about cooperation at its core, so it can be hard to organise with random players you don’t know. Luckily, it’s super easy to ensure only your friends can play with you, meaning you’ll be coordinating dangerous missions together in no time.
How to make a private lobby
To make a private lobby, you just need to enter the Options menu on your ship and set your lobby so that only friends can join.

Here’s the full process to do this:
- Load into your ship
- Pause the game
- Select the ‘Options’ tab at the top
- Ensure ‘Gameplay’ is selected
- Find ‘Matchmaking Privacy’ and set it to ‘Friends-Only’
With this setting enabled, only people who you are friends with on Helldivers 2 will be able to join your game. I also found that my friends on Steam could join me, so it likely extends to any friends you have on your chosen platform as well.
There’s currently no invite-only option though, so anyone on your friends list can freely join you, but you can just as easily kick them from the Social menu.
You can also still join other random games while your own lobby is private.
