Stories are the heart and soul of Instagram. We love sharing daily updates on stories. However, without the privacy settings provided by Instagram, one would be wary of sharing content on it. We usually hide Instagram stories from one or two people and leave them open to the rest. What if we want to reverse the situation? It was hiding things from everyone but one person.
There are many reasons to do that. For instance, I use it to test different Instagram story features. Similarly, someone might want to check if someone they like has seen their story. You can also fool your friends with this trick by giving them the impression that you have shared the story with everyone.
In case you are wondering how to show your story to only one person, there are two methods to do so. Let’s check them out.
Method 1: Use the Hide Story option
The first method involves the usual process of hiding stories from others. That is you need to go into Instagram settings and select the people you want to hide your story from. In this scenario, everyone but the special person.
Now check the steps in detail.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app and go to your profile screen. Tap the three-bar icon at the top. Select Settings from the menu.
Step 2: Go to Privacy, then Stories.
Step 3: Tap the People option in the Hide stories from section.
Step 4: You will be shown your followers. Select each person by tapping the selection bubble next to their name. Yes, you will have to handmade choose everyone. Instagram does not yet offer an option to select all. Uncheck the person you want to show the story to. Finally, tap the check icon at the top in the case of Android. On iPhone, tap Done.

When you use this method, other people won’t know that you have created a special story for them in the same way that happens in method two listed below. However, as you must have noticed, this method is tiring because you have to select all your followers manually.
Furthermore, if you have a public profile, people who don’t follow you can still access your stories. That’s because you’ve hidden your story from your followers. If that’s an issue, you should make your profile private. For that, go to Instagram Settings > Privacy > Account Privacy. Activate personal account. Do other people know when you hide your story
Are not. Your followers won’t be notified when you hide your story from them.
Method 2: Use a Close Friend List
Another way to hide your story from all but one person is to use a buddy list. Introduced last year, the buddy list is a special category of your followers who have exclusive access to your stories. When you add a story to your close friends list, only the people added to that list can see it. Others do not have access to such stories.
So in this case, you need to add that person to your close friends list. And then add stories to your close friends list. In doing so, the story will only be visible to that specific person.
Here are the detailed steps.
Step 1: On the profile screen of the Instagram app, tap the three-bar icon at the top. Select Friend.
Step 2: Use search to find the person you want to add to your list. Remove others from the list in case you don’t want them to see your story. Then tap Done.
Step 3: Go to the main screen of the Instagram app and tap on the camera icon at the top or tap on your Story.
Step 4: Take a new photo or select one from the gallery. You can modify them to your liking. Then, tap the Close Friends button at the bottom. Stories will only be visible to the selected person.

What is forewarning?
Although the process seems easy, there is a downside. Stories added to the buddy list have a green circle around them instead of the usual rose red. So other people will know that you added them to this list.
In case that person is already on your close friends list, that’s the best way as you just need to remove other people from this list.
Bonus: How to hide stories from non-followers
As mentioned before, if you have a public profile, your story will be visible to people who don’t follow you. To hide it from a specific unfollower, follow these steps:
Step 1: In the Instagram app, open the profile where you want to hide your story.
Step 2: Click on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.
Step 3: Select Hide Your Story from the menu. Confirm by tapping Hide in the pop-up menu that appears.

Although you can complete the task of hiding stories from everyone using the two methods above, it would be nice if Instagram had a native option without any conditions.
