In Call of Duty games, the Overkill perk allows you to equip two primary weapons and use two different loadouts depending on the situation – and you can unlock it in the Modern Warfare 3 beta.
However, with the introduction of a new perk system in Modern Warfare 3, the developer has entirely removed all of the old perks and replaced them with boots, gloves, gear, and vests. Luckily, there’s a workaround through which players can still gain the benefits of Overkill perk in Modern Warfare 3.
Can you get the Overkill perk in MW3?

Click to enlargeWhile the Overkill perk doesn’t appear directly in Modern Warfare 3, players can get the same benefits by equipping the Gunner Vest in the game. The Gunner Vest is one of four unique Vest Perks in the game, the others being the Engineer Vest, Demolition Vest, and Infantry Vest.
When they equip the Gunner Vest, an additional slot for the primary weapon will appear in the Vest customization section. From there, players can select two primary weapons that will be immediately available to use from the moment a match begins until it ends.
Aside from this, the Gunner Vest provides the following benefits in Modern Warfare 3:
- Improved reload speed
- Start with maximum ammo
This vest is primarily beneficial for aggressive players who like to be in the heat of the battle.
How to unlock the Gunner Vest in MW3
The Gunner Vest is locked by default in Modern Warfare 3, so players will need to unlock it first by reaching level 20 on their account. There are several ways to level up fast in Modern Warfare 3, including playing matches, completing Daily Challenges, and getting kills. After fulfilling the unlock condition, the Gunner Vest will appear under the ‘Vest Perks’ section.
It’s important to note that you must choose the two primary weapons in the Gunner Vest before the match starts, and you cannot change them in the middle of the game.
