You might have come across a challenge in Modern Warfare 3 that tasks you with earning a set amount of Operator Assault Kills. Earning these is a fairly clear-cut process, although the game doesn’t make it entirely clear how you earn this type of kill – especially if you’re a newcomer to the series.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to earn Operator Assault Kills, as well as a few tips to help you rack them up quickly.
What are Operator Assault Kills?
Operator Assault Kills are kills that are earned on enemies that are defending an objective. As such, you’ll need to ensure that you’re playing an objective-based game mode to earn them and ensure that you’re being as aggressive as possible.
Don’t get Assault Kills confused with Defensive Kills, however. You won’t earn any progress towards this challenge if you camp and defend an objective. Instead, you’ll need to ensure that you’re pushing objective points and defeating enemies that are defending.

It can be difficult to know when you’ve earned an Operator Assault Kill, as there’s no onscreen message that tells you when you’ve earned one. However, you can check the challenge progress bar in the Challenges menu to see how many you’ve earned so far.
Tips to earn Operator Assault Kills quickly
To earn these types of kills quickly, I recommend getting into a playlist with both Domination and Hardpoint enabled. These two game modes rely on objective-focused gameplay, meaning that there will likely always be enemies defending.
What’s more, I’d recommend choosing an aggressive-style loadout for your weapon of choice. We have some excellent Assault Rifle and SMG loadouts to choose from, the weapon classes of which suit themselves perfectly for a run-and-gun setup that will help you down enemies while on the attack.
Avoid picking defensive-style loadouts like Sniper or Battle Rifles, as unless you’re superbly skilled with them, you’re unlikely to earn many Operator Assault kills while using them.
