How to get melee kills with the Blacklight Flashlight in MW3

Most folks know how to get melee kills in Modern Warfare 3, but getting melee kills with the Blacklight Flashlight is a whole different ballgame (gun game?). After all, one look at the list of MW3’s melee weapons and you’ll soon see that there’s no option to equip anything that resembles a Flashlight.

As much as we’d like to go around bopping people on the head with flashlights in Call of Duty, it’s sadly not possible, and this pesky MW3 challenge refers to a completely different piece of equipment in the game. Here’s what you need to know, so you can earn all the melee kills you need with the Blacklight Flashlight.

You can be forgiven for searching for the Blacklight Flashlight in the Melee Weapons menu, but that’s the wrong spot. Instead, head to the Gear slot in your loadout menu. It’s here that you can equip the Blacklight Flashlight, a perk that shows enemy footsteps.

You’ll need to be level 36 to equip this piece of equipment, so you might have a bit of grinding to do if you haven’t quite unlocked it yet. Throw on a couple rounds of Shipment and you’ll be there in no time.

Earning melee kills with the Blacklight Flashlight is as simple as getting melee kills while the perk is equipped. Ensure that it’s selected in your loadout, alongside your sharpest melee weapon, and head into your favourite MW3 game mode.

I personally enjoy objective-based game modes for completing challenges like these, as it’s easier to figure out the spawns and understand the flow of enemies throughout the map.

From there, you’ll need to sneak up behind enemies and kill them with your melee weapon. Having the Blacklight Flashlight equipped for this challenge is a boon in itself, as it allows you to see the recent steps of nearby enemies. Look for ones leading away from you, and you’re more likely to sneak up on someone unawares.

Every kill that you earn with the Blacklight Flashlight equipped will count towards your challenge total, and you’ll no doubt have it completed sooner rather than later.
