So I bought a Shure microphone, added it to OBS, and set it up correctly.
However, when I record my voice and played it back, I could barely hear myself.
My voice was extremely soft even though the sound settings were maxed out.
I took a few hours before I finally found out the root cause of the problem.
In this short and simple guide, you’ll learn how to fix your Microphone too quiet or too soft in OBS.
How to fix microphone too quiet in OBS
To fix Microphone too soft or quiet in OBS, you need to add a compressor and increase the output gain.
If you still can’t hear yourself, you need to increase the volume of your microphone from the control panel.
Fix 1: Increase the output gain of your microphone
Increase the output gain of your microphone:
- Launch OBS.
- Right-click “Audio Input Capture”.
- Select “Filters”.
- Click on the “+” icon and select “Compressor”.
- Increase the output gain until you can hear yourself.
You can also try to copy the settings that I’ve set for my compressor by expanding the second screenshot above.
Try playing around with the settings until your voice sounds clearer and better.
Fix 2: Increase the level of your microphone
Increase the volume of your microphone:
- Search for “Control Panel” using Windows Search and open it.
- Hardware and Sound > Sound > Change system sounds.
- Recording > Right-click your Microphone > Properties.
- Select “Levels” and increase the volume of your microphone (e.g. to 100).
- Select “Apply” followed by “OK”.
